Forum Graphics & Displays : Graphics Cards Can it realy be true

Ive just RMA'ed my x1900Xt becourse of malfunction (it happens), but my vendor dosnt have a new card before next week so he said he whould send me another card equal or better.

But ive been looking through the VGA chart and compered the X1900XT with other cards, and my conclution is that its the fastest card out there. the one i thought that could beat it was the new 7950 GX2, but apparently it only beats it in 3dMark2006 but not in any game (according to the VGA chart).

My question now is :
Am i totaly wrong or have i read the VGA char correctly and the only cards that beats it is the ones in SLI, CF mode. ?

The only thing I can think of in the ATI samples would be the X1900XTX and X1950. But I doubt the guy will upgrade you. He just might send you a 7950GT, 7900GT or 7900GTX?

that is what his thinking, also why i was checking around the internet, but i allso remember i bought the X1900XT becours it was one of the fastes cards at the time.

If you can, get the X1950XTX since its a much better card. Otherwise, a 7900GTX is almost about equal, you won't be losing much if you get it. The GX2 is faster, but only with games that have proper SLI support. You might want to read up on some 7950GX2 reviews

if your going that high end stick with ATI because you get the HDR+ AA

dont settle for anything less then the x1900xt or x1900xtx ( even the x1950 would rock )

In Source engine games nVidia's cards also work with HDR and AA as Valve uses a different approach to HDR which leaves the AA intact.

Valve has implemented HDR like we saw in Lost Coast, but what is unique about the method of HDR they are using is that antialiasing works with it on any current DX9 video card. That’s right, everyone who has GeForce 6/7 series video cards get to enjoy AA with HDR

Nvidia cards can't do OpenEXR HDR [edit] and AA at the same time. (sorry, never really completed that sentence clearly) :) [/edit].

Valve doesn't use OpenEXR, they use a proprietary HDR method.... so Nvidia cards can use AA with it.

Eh? I thought they just couldn't do Open EXR HDR WITH AA. Maybe that's what you meant.

Why didn't he just try to RMA it back to the manufacture once he found out newegg was out?
that's the one reason i was scared of buying an ATI card was the bad support you get with them.. monarch don't even sell saphire cards because of lack of custumer support, but once the x1900xt went below 300 i couldn't resist.

though i havnt read up on this, how can the performance be better for one card if the games supports SLI?

Since the GX2 is 2 separate cards bridged together it acts like SLI. Some games have very optimized performance with SLI providing better than 1900xt performance. There are however still many games that do not have particularly well optimized performance with SLI and therefore the 1900xt edges out the GX2 in some cases. Best to know what games you love to play the most, do some research into reviews for the two cards and make decisions based on that. SLI support will likely get only better not worse so hopefully SLI implementations will age very well but who knows for sure eh?

I've owned 3 Sapphire GPUs in my life.

2 I currently have still; The only problem I've had with them is when I had a Sapphire 9800pro 256 (R360 core) and it rainbowed the memory. To an extent (Ok the full extent) was my fault - but I was able to "negotiate" an RMA and get a replacement. I've never had any problems with their GPU's or company to say the most. So if the price is right; I wouldnt hesitate.
