I am getting ready to build a new system. I was wondering if I could use one of the new physics cards like Ageia's PhysX card with ATI's X1950 XTX dual SLI setup?

If u have a spare PCI slot then yes.
Let me just add that a X1900XT costs 300$ and it's performance is pretty the same as even the X1900XTX at 450$, so it would probably be best to get the X1900XT and use the extra 300$ for a better CPU
Remmember stay AWAY from XTX, its a big scam (or the XT is an amazing bargain.. wichever way u want to look at ATI - postive or negetive)

Thanks for the info on the XT Vs. XTX, I would definitely of course rather save the $$

Haven't you heard? Ageia is a scam. It does nothing, nor are there any games now (and won't be for some time), which require a physics card. As one reputable reviewer put it - trying to scam consumers out of $300 by selling them a card that does not work is plain immoral.

You could use one; it just doesn't make sense to.

one minor point, ati's dual GPU setup is called crossfire. also i am not sure if the x1950's are available right now although the gpu options have been discussed.

stay away from ageia. they are cowboys plain and simple. physics in games is a good thing but do not go near ageia. they treat us the public like fools and are like the emporers new clothes IMO.

read toms articles on them as they show how they have tried to deceive the public.

There's nothing technically stopping you, apart from (hopefully) your common sense.

PhysX should only even be considered when you have without exception every single absolute best component in every single other area of your PC. And even then, it's about as useful as just making a PCI-sized square of plastic and putting it in your case for decoration.

The idea for Physix rendering in games to this day make no difference whatsoever. Like slava said, It is a scam. To be honest, i bought mine thinking it would be the best thing in the world, and also i got a cheap price for it too. Thankfully though, I Con'd my friend into buying it from me, so ill be getting rid of it early next week. Ageia just wants to loot you for cash. In tests, their was no real overall improvement to games that supported the so called "Mighty" Physix engine. If you want to burn 250 on one, go ahead. But im just saying my 2 cents on the card.

Are u ppl serious abt Aegia, How can a product be a scam?
I mean, didnt u see the demos on their page that show how much better the physics in G.R.A.W. are with the card?
This is totally crazy, it would never have been out in the market if it was realy a scam, they couldnt have dodged that many bullets and lied to everyone abt it just to get it in stores, and then how would they hold up with the reviews??
I think u guys are just over reacting..

But even if does work, its still not very usefull now, when developers are starting to use the 2nd core of a dual-core CPU for physics other just letting it rot, and it's price is outragous for a card that dosent have any performance increases in-game.

What is with the cowboy reference? I'm not familiar with this.

Doesn't mean anything. Stranger is an idiot pretending to be the local expert and authority on everything. He's probably to young to remember the first video card, which most people thought was pointless. It took at least a year before people understood how necessary they were going to be. Advanced level of physics in games will be the same thing. It's in the very early stages, and has been very basic up until now.

But in any case, to the OP, you don't need a PhysX card until there is a supporting game you must have. It will probably be 3-6 months before we get the first games that really make use of it.

woot you and sci fi man come popping up. track you have been owned in these argument, like scifiman, so often it is not funny.

you guys never admit it. fgor one track those demos have nearly ever sinc they were release been discredited it. look up toms articles especially on graw and you will se why i call them cowboys.

lol i will expect xgas to turn up any minute with his support which quickly dies down when he has noo evidence.

you guys don't learn. every time these arguments come up you have no ground to stand on. it is pathetic and almost troll like.

now please leave while your behind.

oh and i am not getting into this physcis argument again. if someone wants to know about these arguments use the search function. i am sick of tired of discussing thbis pointless topic. ageia have been dragged through the dirt and don't need it again. they are not a serious compnay and are therefore no tworth discussing. i am not running away from the argument only that i have said all i have to before.
rodney, i use the term cowboy to depict someone who acts like they are trustworthy but then does a half assed job who takes someone money and runs.

it is usually builders who are described in that way.

The card isnt MUCH of a benefit to the game. Spending 250 for it now is pointless, when something better and hopefully cheaper will be released at some point next year. If you feel so tough and think the card is so great, then go and buy one and see the results for yourself. That is why people call it a "scam".

Also like to add: Don't be cocky on these forums, like stranger said Ageia has been dragged through the dirt. Do try not to bring up the issue: "Ageia Physix's card RULE!" because it is a downright false term. Card's terrible. I had one, getting rid of it tuesday.(Idiot friend wanted it, so i sold it to him)

Reply to enforcerfx

Yup, the tangible benefits they offer are negligible at best.

Even the 'cool' demeos they have shown off have been cracked to run fine without the card.
