I've just bought a 6600 core 2 duo and I am wondering about its installation.

The stock fan/heatsink seems to come with thermal paste already? I am asuming thats what the grey strips are on the bum of the heatsink?
Will that be enough for installation, or will I need to add more thermal compound?

In the future I may buy a custom heatsink, but for the time being the stock one will have to do.
I remember on previous pentium chips that the heat sink and fans were a little shoddy and I replaced it with a custom one, this one looks more impressive for a stock fan/heatsink!!!

Any help appreciated.

Yes, those three grey stripes are the thermal compound.

No, you do not need to add any more.

Over the years both AMD and Intel have improved the stock HSF so it should be fine. I didn't bother installing the stock HSF, I went straight to the Scythe Ninja.
