I just built a system using an Asus M2NPV-VM motherboard, an Athlon 64 3800+ X2, 1gb of G.Skill DDR2 800, and a Seagate 250gb SATA2 drive.
The system booted perfectly and I entered the bios before setting about installing my OS. Sadly, I saw the "Primary Display Adapter" option under Advanced->PCIPnP in the bios and changed it from "PCI-E" to "Onboard" because I plan on using onboard video. I saved the changes and quit the bios, only to be given a black screen and a series of beeps.
I then followed the manual's steps for clearing the CMOS to restore the original settings. Upon boot, the computer sounds like it is booting fine, but there is no video on my screen (I have tried the VGA, DVI, and S-Video outputs). Does anybody have a clue what to do? Any work arounds aside from buying a PCI-E card (I only have AGP cards laying around my house)? Thanks!
Edit: Figured out that it is a bad mobo--will return.
I encountered this problem today and when I went into the BIOS I found that one of the settings was incorrect and changed it. My manual shows the different settings and when I found the incorrect one and changed it my video returned. When my system booted before the correction I saw "incorrect checksum" among the information before the screen went blank.
I tried booting with my friend's Radeon X800 and got the same results that I did with the onboard video--it boots with video completely at random. It will work then, without changing any settings, I can reboot and it will not work.
I just returned the mobo, got an identical one, put it together, plugged my monitor into the onboard RGB (VGA) port and powered on. Nothing happened--no display on screen.
Is this a problem with the onboard video not being on by default--which makes no sense; or could it be an issue with my ram (1GB G.SKILL DDR2-800 PC2 6400)?
In the manual there is a section called Bios setup program. (In my case it was under the power menu. Suspend mode was something other than "auto". It should be auto.)[size=18] Check the whole section and make sure the settings match what the manual shows.
My motherboard is an ASUS but not the same model. I had never encountered this problem before.
Also, before your screen goes blank look at the information on the screen and look for something that indicates an error somewhere.
