man the 76 is a good card and the 79 is better
if you can afford the extra 85$ then go for it
the 76 will play all of the current games fine
not with all settings maxed but close.
if you like oblivion the 76 will play it pretty good
if you like bf2 and want to play the new bf2142 it should
play it great too. as ea has said that it will use the same
basic game engine as bf2.
i would go with the 7900gs for the extra 85 bucks if you can afford it. go to nvidia.com and look at the difference in specs. first the 7900gs is 256 bit not 128 and 20 pixle not 12 i also believe the clock speeds on the memory and core are faster.
This is for my sub comp and i want to know which card would be the best bang for the buck
PNY 7600gt for $170 CAD
or
XFX 7900gs for $254 CAD
would it worth extra 84 bucks??
remember that he is talking about a 7600GT and a 7900GS not a 7900GT and a 7900GS the order of performance would go
7600gs<7600gt<7900gs<7900gt<7900gtx so if you can fork over the extra money it would be worth it...or if you want to go ati you can get a x1900gt if you can find one for a similiar price to the 7900gs as it offers better performance and would last you longer because of its increased shader count since games are headed to more shader intensive graphics..

The 7900GS is easily overclockable to the 7900GT speeds. I would go for that if you got the cash.
Yeh, but it has LOCKED pipelines, so it would have to be Overclocked 100Mhz above the GT just to reach the it's performance.
You cant compare the 7600 GT to a 7900, its just not as good. It dosent even have locked pipelines, they just dont exsist, not that it really matters, because u can un-lock the pipelines on a 7 series card anyway.
I say, get the 7900 GT for only 50$ more then the 7900 GS. You can overclock it to a 7900 GTX wich a good cooler and maybe a simple 1 minute volt-mod.
Did u read what i wrote at all?
The GT can overclock much higher, and perform much better.
For another 50$ u can also have the X1900XT wich is the same as the 7900 GTX itself.
is the 79gt 50$ better than the 76gt yes
is the 79gt 50$ better than the 79gs no
The 7900 GS is 50$ more then the 7600 GT.

Dude, if ud rather spend a measly 50$ less and get the GS, go ahead, but for the rest of us smart folk, spending another 50$ for a card that u will have for years when u spend 50$ on a single game, is just the only way, unless u dont want a high-end card, and then why would u want to play games anyway? But thats personal.
7900 GT - 24/8/24/16
7900 GS - 20/7/20/12
At 450Mhz, the core can utilize these pipies to make:
Shader/Texture - (GS) 9000/11000 (GT)
That matters a lot, and its just an example.
To me, the extra 50$ is definetely worth it, like the difference been a 250GB HDD and a 160GB HDD is abt 15$, worth it or not? I think so.
will the op notice a diff in perf from the 76gt to the 79gs
probably.
will he notice a diff between the 79gs and the 79gt probably not.
well maybe in the wallet. his prices are in cad
here in the us the 76gt and 79gs are about the same price
around 180$ to 200$ and the 79gt it closer to 300$
so i would go for the 79gs if it were me. as all of them will not
cut it in a year or less from now anyway

Years eh... Shoot, i'd be putting that card into my daughter's pc on the day after Thanksgiving... There's always a screaming deal @ the stores that day. Besides, why waste the xtra $50.00 when we all know that the GT is going to be $50-100 less in four months. The GT probably wont get more than 10 fps than the GS in oblivion anyways. Ya think?

If the Original Poster would´ve wanted the 7900GT i´m certain he would have included it in his post. Obviously he doesn´t want to shell out that much money. There are some ATI cards in that price range. The 1900GT you mentioned, for example. You´ve to draw a line somwhere. Otherwise he´ll have to buy a 1950XT... and that´s a price range you can build a whole computer for.
I wouldn´t want to spend too much money on a DX9 card right now either. I think going with the 7900GS or a 1900GT is a good choice.

Yes, but in 4 months the 7900GT will be crap anyways.
