Why memory do you need to run dual channel? does it have to be the same size or can you run diffrent sizes in dual channel?
I have a asus a8n-e m/b and a 1gb and 512mb sticks would i need ones the same size to run dual channel?

At least the same size, and often the same manufacturer and model.

so If i added another 1gb and 512mb sticks should that work in dual channel?

If each is the same manufacturer, model number, and revision number as the one you already have, then yes. If not, maybe.

Assume that 1 channel uses RAM slots 1 and 3, and the other uses slots 2 and 4. You would have to put the first 1GB stick in slot 1, the second in slot 2, and the the 2 512MB sticks in slots 3 and 4. If you put the 1GB sticks in slots 1 and 3, and the 512MB sticks in 2 and 4, you would revert to single channel operation.

Do your best to match vendors as well for stability reasons.
