Canon Mp730: black does not work any more

Hello all,

I have a prolbem with my Canon MP730, which has been "dry"
for a few weeks. When I print there is no trace of black ink
on the paper, not one single drop. The colors work fine,
though. And of course there is plenty of black ink left in
the tank.
I went through several "printhead cleanings" and "printhead
refreshings", but to no avail. Yesterday I put the printhead
into a shallow Isopropanol bath for a thourough cleaning. As
result I got a very colorful cleaning fluid and brilliant
color prints, but still no black ink on the paper. If the
black nozzels were clogged I would expect the typical
"striped" print or at least some miniscule traces of black
on the paper...

Any ideas? Do I really have to buy a new printhead?

If the print heads dry a few weeks and you tried printing there's
every chance of 'blowing' the print head.

Imagine an electric kettle with no water in..... with a print head
you'll blow the tiny heating elements.

But I would try a manual clean first, maybe get a Canon head cleaning
cartridge, do a clean and possibly leave over night in situ.
