This comp is 2-3 years old now. It's a P4. The problem is...the back fan is attached to this box that has a custom fitting onto the case. It vibrates really loudly and pisses me off. How do I fix it? BTW, there is no rubber between metal case and the plastic.
Just try to wedge something in between the two parts that are vibrating. As ghetto as this sounds, I've actually used folded paper AT WORK to "fix" a system exhibiting a similar problem... the co-worker (an older female) looked at me funny as I wedged the piece of paper in her computer, but it did solve her problem. I don't think anyone here (unless they have your exact computer) is going to be able to offer specific advice so just get creative on your own.
i have had some dells and still do
they have the exhaust 120mm fan in the back
with a green airduct from the heat sink to the fan
dont take the green airduct off. i have and noticed the comp.
my girlfreinds acting funny. so i touched the heatsink yeeeooowww
it felt like a catalytic converter. so i put the airduct back on
later i plasma cutted a hole in the side of the dell and added
a 120mm side fan thermaltake with speed control and with
the back exhaust fan and the side fan it runs coo.
but as the op said the large plastic bracket in the back of the dell
is well i havent really looked at it as it just looks wierd and part of
so i agree with you wedge some paper in there
i put the side fan for my girlfreind it is orange and she likes that color
a bit of duct tape could also be used to hold the vibrating part down. only.. dont use hte tape to block hte airflow (IE no tape on the swiss cheese grate.. that would be very bad...). I do like hte iea of cutting a hole in the dell though. it does need more fans.
