Quick temperature question.

My Core2 Duo E6300 setup is using a Zalman CNPS9500 and it's currently overclocked to 2.4GHz (342MHz x 7) with vCore at 1.328.

According to Core Temp, it's idling at ~55C and it maxes out at 62C after 10 hours of Prime95 Torture mode with no errors.

Are these temps reasonable? I know that every setup gets different results, I just want to make sure that I'm not doing a ton of extra harm to this thing.

55C is quite high for idle...

My E6400, OCed to 2.4Ghz, idles at around 37C and Orthos loads at about 47C tops on a cool day. On a hot day, it's more like 40C idle and 50C Orthos load.

First of all, I'd lower the vCore. My E6400 is stable at 1.240V as reported by CPU-Z. Try lowering your vCore a notch or two at a time in BIOS, and check for stability. This should lower the temps a bit.

Now I'm beginning to think that there's a problem with whatever is recording the temp.

I just lowered the vCore one step at a time down to 1.28V and there was absolutely no change in the idle temp.
