Sorry about this question, I know it's probably been asked a million times
before but can I use the big 3eBK plain paper cartridge to exclusively print
out black text? Or will the other colours be used no matter what settings I
use the in the print setup? I obviously want to save the other black &
colour carts for printing pictures and right now I have a need to print out
a lot of plain text on plain paper.

Thanx in advance.

select 'gray scale' in the printer driver

While that setting should use only the black ink when printing, you
should be aware that the printer does regular cleaning cycles as
required. And some colour ink is still used during that procedure.

Does it damage the printer to take out the color carts? I've heard
this is a bad idea for separate ink/printhead systems. I used to run
an HP Deskjet 930C (printhead is in cartridge) with just the black
cartridge...the good old days when HP make *REAL* capacity
black-cartridges of 40mL.
