I had a 3000+ and tried to remove the stock HSF from the board to put in an upgrade but when I pulled on the cliping mechanism to release the heatsink, goo stuck to the CPU and pulled the CPU straight out of the zipp socket while still attached to the heatsink. I currently have a 3500+ I wish to upgrade, but am terrified of ripping the CPU out of it's socket again.

How do I go about removing the CPU without ripping it out of the socket? Any help would be appeciated thanks.

Once you have unclipped the heatsink, apply a slight left to right twisting pressure to loosen the thermal material. Take care and use patience. Once you have "broken" the thermal material, the heatsink can be removed and the CPU can be removed after bringing the lever up.

Did you damage or ripped any pins off that 3000+ ?

For best results, remove the HSF after running the CPU full load with a stress test or benchmark app, this will soften the TIM and make it easier to remove the HSF from the CPU.
