This will be my first build. I've done a fair amount of research and here is what I've come up with:
Thermaltake Tsunami VA3000BWA Black Aluminum ATX Mid Tower
Original Price: $115.99
Instant Savings: -$5.00
($90.99 after $20.00 Mail-In Rebate)
Antec NeoPower NeoHE 550 ATX12V 550W
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300
ASUS P5B Deluxe/WiFi
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Unbuffered DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
Original Price: $379.00
Instant Savings: -$20.00
eVGA 512-P2-N572-AR Geforce 7900GTX 512MB
($374.99 after $25.00 Mail-In Rebate)

eVGA 256-P2-N583-AR Geforce 7900GT 256MB
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10
LG Black 16X DVD-ROM 52X CD-R 32X CD-RW 52X CD-ROM 2M Cache

I'm not on a really strict budget but would greatly appreciate any input, especially with the mobo and video card. It will be used mostly for gaming, but I am an IT major as well. May try my hand at OCing, but I haven't before. I already have an lcd, keyboard, mouse, etc.
Thanks in advance! :)

Nice list. Your research has not been in vain! 8)

If your LCD is 1280x1024 the 7900GT will be fine. If you're gaming @ 16x12 or above you'll appreciate the 7900GTX's extra GPU power.

I would not buy eVGA. Stick with BFG or XFX if you want a Geforce otherwise look at the ATI X1900 XT for 320.

You can do better on the memory. I would look at the OCZ, Mushkin, or Super Talent modules.

I would get a Plextor drive instead...for all the software you download from MSDN :D  ...., like the PX-750A or the PX-760A. IMHO they are the RR of burners.

The mobo is fine. Here is a list of all manufactures that use that chipset:
