All selected from Newegg.com

1. Core2 Duo E6400 = $230.00
2. G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 = $290.00
3. XFX 7900GS 256 meg vid card = $200.00
4. Aspire 500W power supply = $40
5. Western digital sata 3.0 160 gig hard drive = $ 55
6. LIAN LI PC-61 USB Black Aluminum ATX Mid Tower Computer = $95

Total of $905.00 without shipping probably $950 with shipping

Might want to use the extra money and get a 7900gt and hit around a cool $1000

The man is on a budget and needs a mobo, get a DS3 or P5B. Drop the 6400 and grab the 6300.

OCZ rev 2 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820227139 a lot cheaper than the GSkill.

Don't get a Lian Li case, go look at new egg and get a cheaper alternative.

You might want to upgrade the HD to a seagate barracuda .10 320gb, i believe they are around 90.

Good list right there. I will suggest a few things in place of that:
Powersupply: I do own a Aspire PSU, but i think theres better, for a little more:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817128005

Otherwise, trixst4r gave a good list. Dont forget a drive though. Newegg carries NECs for about 30 bucks or so. So that puts you either under, or very close to 1000. Good Luck. :D

don't get ddr2-800, you'll never run it at full speed unless you plan on oc'ing to 400mhz...

i would recommend getting that same ram in ddr2-533 with the lowest cas latency you can find, like 4 or 3 perferably not 5, this will allow your speed to run synchronously which will perform better than the 800 memory which you'll pay a premium for

do you mean DS3 for the mobo? If you are overclocking, get teh DS3. Switch that asus dvdrw(overpriced) for a benq 1650 or pioneer 111d, both should be cheaper and provide good performance.

Get 800mhz ram if you are OCing. When you OC your processor, your ram gets OCed along with it. Read up more on OCing before you purchase. You are way better off to get 2 gigs total ram.

DO NOT get cheap indonesian power supply, you will burn out more components within the year and spend more money if you bought a quality one.

Don't gimp out on a PSU. You don't want to budget your way out by buying a crappy PSU, it could very well end up costing you half of your total budget when it fries and brings the mobo/cpu/gpu/ram or all of them with it.

for the dvdrw with dvdram....pioneer is 42...so its over 5$
but i'll keep that in mind...

if i'm gonna buy a "branded" like thermaltake 500w psu...its gonna cost at least 80$
ever heard of sonic gear??its psu for 500w is 60$
i'm really cutting the budget for psu...

Well my setup (in signature) was cheap. $1300 Canadian without the video card, which I already had, and i already had a 320gb hd so I only bought 1. Id recommend getting a 7900 gt and overclock it, you can get gtx performance for half the price. It's going to cost you more than $1000 american for the setup, but it is an extremely fast computer for your buck. I also bought the three fans for the inside of the case, got the antec stealth, its super quiet too at 3.4 ghz.

I do a superpi 1M in 17.793. Since the worlds fastest overclocked 5.2ghz does it in around 10, thats not half bad.

7900gs is only around $200 and much faster than the 7600 you have chosen. Also I only listed components based on your list. Did not know you needed motherboard, DVD drive etc.. would have changed my suggestions considerably. But do go with 2 gigs of ram its a must at this time since one gig is quickly becoming low end also go with 667 DDR2 to save the money allowing for modest overclocks without busting the bank.

I use the Aspire PSU, but it is an older standard with different outputs, including -5V which you may not need. My particular mobo does, but my next one won't. At that time, I'll probably spend $80-$100 on a PSU.

But, I have been satisifed with the Aspires; no grief from my systems since building them.

That Hiper 480w i recommended you was a real deal right there. NEVER skimp out on a PSU, no matter what your price range is. Having a cheap PSU highly risks the chances of it failing and even blowing up some other components in the process. Heres the link again:

2G ram??meanwhile i'll just stay wit 1G...then i'll add 1G more...4x512mb..wat do u guys think?&currently the memory price are sky high...i'll postpone on buying memory for a week or two...

problem with 4 sticks of ram is less stability at tighter timings and less overclock potential. check anandtech.com for benmarks on the 7900gs also toms hardware has this review up today.

yes overclocking, as in overclock the cpu...when you oc the cpu you oc the ram, therefore when you get your cpu running at 400mhz w/o the multiplier then you are running at ddr2-800, so yes this is how you oc memory, or you can change the cpu:memory ratio to oc also...no link necessary...

The following links to my version of a $1,000 PC which does not include a monitor, operating system and shipping charges:

http://forumz.tomshardware.com/hardware/000-Gaming-Rig-Template-excludes-Monitor-amp-Shipping-ftopict200637.html

The first example is a Core 2 Duo build. It actually works out to $1,011.

Scroll lower for an Athlon 64 X2 build which come in under $1,000.

I favor the Core 2 Duo version 'cause I have a Core 2 Duo E6600 PC. I'm more familiar with overclocking a C2D since I just from the Athlon XP to C2D.
