Hello.

I have a Compaq Presario 1621 laptop.
The processor is a 233 mgtz AMD

The details are as follows:
AMD-K6/233ADZ
Mobile 9w
2.1v core/3.30v I/O
A9751FPAW

I have been doing some research, and articles are telling me that it is a Socket 7.
I would like to switch out the CPU with a faster one, preferably a 500mgtz.
How can I tell what is the fastest CPU that my mobo can handle?
how can I tell that the mobo is indeed a Socket 7.
What parameters do I need to keep in mind when shopping for a CPU?

Thank you
Chris

Even if u find what CPUs ur laptop can handle, there is no way of finding one because it is too old. You can buy a new one for just 500 or 600 $

Only eBay will have Socket 7 CPUs.

Seriously...get a new computer! In the UK at the moment you can get a Power Macintosh G4 for £50. When computers are that cheap, there's no excuse for still using S7.

What kind of processor you want? I got a dozen of them. Though, that processor ran on a 66mhz fsb, and the highest cpu you could probably find is a 266 or maybe a 300 if you're lucky. I don't know how far the K6-2s went. The pentiums stopped at 233.

However, you probably can't replace it in a laptop, and even if you could it probably wouldn't give much improvement, even if the laptop supported a 100 fsb.

Not so fast, there is to many issue's here. Heat and power consumption just being two of them. It's a paper weight, live with it or replace it. And I'm being kind.
