Whats the catch? It needs to run on in a PCI slot? The computer is a P3 500MHz machine? The computer has only 128MBs of RAM? I'd be hard pressed to think of a video card that WON'T play a game at 800x600 with details maxed.

Rather then us tell you about all the great video cards, why don't you tell us what is available in your area. Tell us what your options are, and we can help tell you which is worth buying.

Why? I would bet my x1800xt can easily play any game out currently with all details maxed if you lower the res to 800x600.

http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics.html?modelx=33&m...

Here is an x1800xt and a 7600GT playing Half Life 2 Episode one with max details at 1024x768. The x1800xt scores 134FPS, while the 7600GT scores 94, and this is at a higher res. As I said, you would have to work to find a card released recently that CAN'T play maxed out at 800x600.

If you have to wait a year to buy this, then ask the question next year. By then, everything will have changed, and who knows what the answer will be. On the other hand, if you can get the money now, see if you can get a 600GT, as even that card will score 57FPS.

First: Try to write correctly and in plain english... so anyone can understand wtf you say.
Second: Any card in the range you mentioned can play any current game on 800x600 with max details: I have an 7800 GTX and play ANY GAME AT 1024x1280 with max details!
Third: don't be so rude with people that try to help you, just because you are too moron to understand what they say!

Honestly, I couldn't care why your system is lowend, it doesn't bother me in the least. You own what you own, make the best of it.

Gotcha. I thought you said you were buying next year, I didn't realise that you ment the computer.

If I didn't want to help, I would have ignored your post.

If I think I can help??? What are you still confused on? Did you even click the link I provided??? Scroll down to the very bottom. Even a x1300 can score 30FPS with details maxed at 1024x768. Running it at 800x600 would provide even more FPS. ANY Nvidia GF7 series card, or ATI X1XXX card can run 800x600 JUST FINE Buy whichever of these cards that fits your budget.

While I could be wrong, I credit your lack of proper spelling to the fact your in india. (at least according to your profile.) Others might have missed it, I did not. Cosmin is right however, you shouldn't be rude to those that help you. While I won't call you a moron, I'm hard pressed to defend the notion that you aren't. I already posted what cards would work. If you don't understand what I've told you, tell me why, don't tell me to go away.

I wouldn't call it rude. As my first sentence says, whats the catch. All recent video cards can handle 800x600 just fine, so I was trying to figure out where the problem is. If you have a P4 2.8GHz machine with a gig of ram, ANY recent video card should be able to handle 800x600. I wouldn't call it rude, more like wonderment...

As Cosmin pointed out, not everyone wants to read "shorthand." I chalked it up to english not your primary langauge. He thought it had something to do with your intellegence level. Both of us find it hard to read. When posting in a public place, you are better served writting everything out longhand, as you will come across a lot better.

Good luck with your video card purchase.

Is there a price limit you have for this gfx card? I for one like the ATI x1xxx series for the HDR and AA part of it, but nVidia works great too on there 7 series (7600/7900). If I were to buy a mainstream gfx card right now, I would probably have to consider at nVidia 7600gt or ATI's x1800GTO. Both are really close in fps (see toms vga charts for details). Pro's for the 7600gt, that I can see, is that it consumes less power (thus runs on smaller PS), and generally doesn't need an added plug into the gfx card. It also can be overclocked quite easily (so I've read). The ATI x1800GTO has HDR and can generally play Oblivion just a shade better than the 7600gt. It also can possibly be overclocked to x1800xt levels, but beware of possible problems with it.

If your budget is less than about $150, then you might consider a 7600gs or x1600 pro model. Similar situation with these 2 gfx cards as the 7600gt and x1800GTO.

If your budgets is under $100 than you might consider a 6600gt (if you can get a hold of one) or a x700/x800 if you can find them too.

I hope that some of this helps with your situation. If you have any other concerns or questions, please let us know.

can you tell me amongst 6600 6800 and 7300 which card is the best (in sub $125 range)??????
September 13, 2006 10:11:58 AM

Not sure, some people have different views of what's best....try refer to THG's graphics cards charts....on the first page if you missed it

If you can find a 6800 for under $125, then that would be good. The 7300gs would also be good, since you get all of the newest technology for a reasonable price. A x1600xt or x1600 pro would also be good too, so you will have to decide. Like with gfx cards, people have preferences on which is better, but I would be willing to bet if you get any of the ones that you mentioned, you should be fine. General rule of thumb for nVidia is the bigger the number (6600/6800 or 7300/7600/7900) the more your generally moving up in abilities. Likewise with ATI you would have (x700/x800/x850 or x1300/x1600/x1800/x1900) you get the picture. Like I stated before, if you are concerned that your PS cannot handle much more power than you currently have, then I might consider the 7600gs or x1600pro. The 6600gt or 6800 models I believe consume a little more power, but don't quote me on that. Check out the manufacturers specifications for the power requirements before you make any final decisions.

I hope that helps. I'm not any expert by any means so please use the Toms VGA charts to see what kind of potential any particular gfx card can do. I like to use it to compare frame rates for any given game that they have tested. This way you can see if your game plays faster on a nVidia or ATI card.

If you can find all three of those cards in the $125 range, I believe the 6800 is the fastest. From highest to lowest, 6800>6600>7300.

I'd spend the money on a new keyboard first as it seems half your keyboard keys broken too.

why do you think a 7800GTX won't be able to cope with max. detail at 800x600? It should easily. My 6800 ultra usually can at 1920x1200.

If you buy a 7800GTX and its still slow its because its being held back by the slowness of the rest of your PC. Until you fix that, ANY good video card will be limited. The speed of a whole PC is the same as the speed of its slowest part.

Its kinda like putting $1000 rims on a Kia.
September 13, 2006 6:13:35 PM

Unless it's a 6800XT, in which case you're better off getting the 6600GT, and 7300GT.

There's a sticky at the top of this section that would've answered your question.

And if it can't its because its being held back by the slowness of your CPU and/or RAM and/or FSB, and until you fix that, any video card will have the same problem.

haha niz i mentioned earlier i was using shorthand the thing used while chatting and all.......so no question of a new keyboard....
and i know 7800 gtx will play all the games at 800*600 but dont you think that its a way too expensive card 2 buy to play games on that resolution...
so what i really wanted to ask was which card would be best to play games on this resolution so that the card's potential is fully utilised......and not partially because 7800 gtx is meant to play the games on high resolutions........
and anyways i got my answer.......i am going to buy a 7300 gt.........
thank you all for the help....
