I am having problems finding a good motherboard and RAM to go with a E6300 build I want to do, can anyone help me? My budget is 450 dollars for RAM, Mobo, and the E6300. If possible, please provide a link to the hardware to a site like newegg, or other american based online PC stores.

I would like the ram to be 1 gig (2x512)

If you have to go over budget just a bit, please post it anyway, I would love to hear input, anything around 450 will do!

Thanks a lot for the future help I (hopefully) get!

RAM

Good? Bad? I have question marks about the ram, I might just go and get the Corsair XMS2 with 5-5-5-15 timings instead once RAM prices start to lower again. Before september started that RAM was sitting at around 110, now at 160! Hehe quite a jump!

I read the article before posting my own similar question & it looks like the information is a little outdated. It said that the 975X boards are the best for the buck at the time the article had been written and that the SLI card was fine, but only if you didn't plan to overclock because the FSB was poor for that card for oc purposes. It did say that the nForce 500 boards would be improved when they came out & they since have. So now I'm wondering if those boards can be considered a middle ground between the nForce 4 & the 975X as far as performance goes, but at the same relative price as the nForce 4's.

I should have my P5N32-SLI PE Deluxe and e6600 running in a few hours. Had I not chose to go SLI with this C2D build I would have chosen the ASUS P5W DH Deluxe. I am hoping my OCZ PC5400 DDR2 667 mhz 512 x 4 will boot the computer up late tonight. Right now RAM is high dollar. I sure hope what I have works until prices for PC6400 800 mhz drop somewhat. This kind of upgrade can become expensive fast consiering the cost of C2D ready MB and RAM.

This will be used for gaming, so I was wondering if the difference between DDR2-800 RAM that I picked out would be any better than the 533 or the 667 that other people have picked. Should I just get the DDR2-800 that I gave a link for?

The requirement for core 2 is ddr2 533. Thats if you dont plan on overclocking one bit ever. It also implies that you dont plan on upgrading to any newer 1333fsb cpus. If you want to plan ahead, id at least get ddr2 667 ram. Of if you're gonna overclock go for ddr2 800

Without overclocking the E6400 will do better no matter what memory you choose.
With mild overclocking (2.13->2.4Ghz=E6600) DDR2 533 will not be an issue.
If you want to attempt OC above 2.4Ghz you'll need to think about better HSF and better RAM DDR2 667 will be all you need unless you're going for insance overclocks (2.9Ghz and above)
DDR2 533 is ideal 1:1 (FSB:DRAM) ratio for C2D systems not overclocked.

Yeah I already saw that, but that doesn't list all the RAM that is compatable with the board, just some of it.
