my current system specs are:

3700+ amd
2x512mb pc3200 (2-2-2-5) ram
7800GT XFX
nforce 4 dfi mobo

if i upgrade to

E6600 conroe
2x1024mb ddr800 (5-5-5-12)
p5b asus mobo
7800GT XFX

What kind of improvements will I see in games like counterstrike:source/company of heroes? I did a performance test in CoH with my current rig (all settings on max) and the average frame rate came back as like 45 and i was pretty disappointed with that. is that 100% related to my videocard or will a cpu/ram upgrade help aswell?

I agree, with a Conroe, unless you are running Oblivion or any other high powered game, most of the improvements you'll see are in your own head.
Get a faster graphics card or more ram is you want to improve you're experience

You don't need to upgrade to C2D to get better performance in games, not at the cost to performance gain you would get. I would say stick some more ram in and forget about upgrading until some really massive leaps are made. Yes C2D owns the FX series in games, but is it really worth the upgrade from a 3700+?

If you do far more than just game though, that might just be another story.

like the others said.

i would reccomend a conroe as they are *now* better than athlon 64 3x00+ cpus although you wouldnt see much difference in games uhnless you upgrade the ram or the gpu.
