I have a question regarding the different screen reolutions available. I
have seen "standard", "QVGA", and "VGA" mentioned in articles etc.
Pretty sure I udnerstand what VGA is. Is there a difference between
"standard" and "QVGA". I have alwasy assumed they were the same thing,
but now I see on pocketthemes.com that there are themes that seem to fall
into three categories: standard, qvga and vga. Can somebody please tell
me the difference between qvga and standard, if there is one? Does it
have something to do with supporting landscape as well as protrait
orientation natively in the OS?
Thanks,
John

Now for a follow up question. Is Windows Mobile 2003 (SE or not) the
first time pocket PCs offered native OS support for landscape mode? Is
it true that you needed an add-in to use landscape in 2000 or 2002?
Is there one available for 2000 devices? Yea, I still have a HP 548 ;-(

VGA is 640x480 and is _almost_ the equivalent of the new "VGA"
resolution pc's which are 480x640... while the pixel count equals VGA,
note the transposition which is "portrait" vs true VGA's "Landscape."
You can rotate the screen on VGA ppc's but there are some residual
issues with apps that may not be operable in vga nor landscape.
"QVGA" comes from "Quarter VGA" which is the PPC's 240x320 "standard"
resolution, also transposed... i.e. it sometimes bites back when the
page format assumes that you have a "landscape" format.

2003SE is the first time the OS supported a native landscape. 2000 (original
PPC), 2002 (which made folks start calling the former 2000) and 2003 all
need third party support to achieve landscape. For the most part it always
required a soft reset to get in or out of landscape too. Read some stuff
about a solution for that was found, but can't confirm that.

You don't need a third party application to use landscape mode on your Jornada 548. At the Run command (I can't remember how to get
to the built-in command, sorry), just type 'rotate -r'. You'll need to do a soft reset, and then do a screen orientation (I think
you hold the Home button and choose Align screen) or you won't be able to your digitizer to work.
