Hey there, we've been hearing quite a lot within the past few months about upcomming DX10 video cards, which were 'said' to be releasing Summer 2006. Since this has not occured yet I am making the assumption DX10 cards will be available soon (I am guessing Oct-Nov). Regardless of my predictions I was wondering what others thought or have heard on the pricing of the DX10 cards. I am aware that they will be faster than any current generation cards but how much? On that same note, do you think the prices will stay about the same as they are now when new video cards are released?

Any opinions/comments are appreciated.

No one said summer '06, people were saying late September at earliest.

Never did new gen cards cost more at release then previous gen card at their release.

I'm guessing, $450 for top-line, $350 mid-end, $200 low-end.

my estimation

low end = around 300
mid = around 400-450
high end = 500 or more

I have a feeling dx10 cards will be extremely expensive when they first come out.

It is probable that high-end DX10 cards will cost as much as 1000$ in 2006 because of very high demand and low supply, then stabilize at 400-600$ in Q1 and Q2 2007, dropping to 300-500$ in Q3 and Q4 2007 when newer models become available. In 2008 the first G80 and R600 models will start to show their age and will probably retail at 200-350$. This prediction is based on the price cycle of nVIDIA's first Gforce 7900 models in 2005-2006.

However, if the rumours about external PSU are true, DX10 cards might cost 50-100$ more than the equivalent models of previous generations.

I'm gonna agree with desidude006 here. DX-10 will probably fetch a premium, due to peoples wanting it for VISTA. Many of the previous GPU series didn't have an OS depending on them for best effects. Most GPU generations featured subtle changes for gaming(i.e. SM3.0,HDR, etc),didn't affect OS, but DX-10 is as much for gaming, as OS.

I refuse to guess.... But then I'm patient.

Relax... They'll cost what they cost, use whatever power they use, upon release. Until then speculations are just that.

BTW, rc1 runs just fine with a 6800 UL card... The biggest drawback is my AMD 3700. It only gets a 4.1 perf. rating. I don't have a copy of crisis, (whatever) but Doom 3 runs just fine. Flt sim stuff struggles....

Age of Conan is going to be the first MMO at Vista launch. While it's not Vista only, DX10 will probably help. I don't want a new OS, I just want DX10!
