At that price it has to compete with the X1900XTX:

links please? clocked 100MHz core and 200MHz mem less than a 7900GTX, which loses more often than not to the X1900XTX, makes me doubt the 7950GT can compete with the X1900XTX. Matter of fact, I'd like to see it pitted up against the $240 256MB X1900XT.

Sure the 7950 GT competes with the X1900 XTX...

...if by 'competes' you mean 'is totally dominated by'...

Anand's review is up. There are a couple funny results that make no sense, like the X1900GT beating the X1900XT 256MB in Oblivion. But anyway, Both the 512MB and 256MB X1900XT's easily beat the 7950GT, especially with the eye candy turned on.

Surprisingly, the 256MB X1900XT even won in the Quake 4 timedemo.

Now skip over to FS, and the 256MB X1900XT easily outperforms even the overclocked 7950GT's, again matching Q4 even.

To be honest, looking over FS's performance figures, it would seem that the 7950GT and X1800XT trade blows and are pretty equal performers, while the X1900XT's are clearly a step above. $280-300 for this new 7950GT just isn't good enough accept for fanboys or the uninformed.

Is that a Slient pipe cooler on it? Id rather spend my cash on a 256mb x1900xt if i had too. Oh wait? A x1900xt kicks sand in its face!

The BFG and eVGA are available for $300.

But that's still too much money for X1800XT level performance, especially with these prices on better cards:
256MB X1900XT $240: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814102051
512MB X1900XT $298 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814102025
IceQ X1900XT: $310 A($30)R: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814161028
X1900XTX $302 A($30)R : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814102037
X1900XTX $277 A($150)R: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814127205

Actually, from what I've seen the 7900GTX, X1900XT and X1900XTX all perform with a few frames of each other, but that's not the point; 7950GT = bad deal.

Yeah, I call the 7900GTX and X1900XT equal performers, notice I said the XTX wins more often than not(7900GTX loses more often than not)... ie. they trade blows, edge to the XTX. I'm not talking a blowout, just that each wins some games but overall X1900XTX>=7900GTX. But to be honest, the more new reviews that come out, the better the X1900XT seems to do against the 7900GTX. Anyway, check out those two reviews of the 7950GT from Anandtech and Firingsquad, as well as the newest digit-life charts, and you see that the X1900XTX definately edges out the 7900GTX when eye candy is turned on (only makes sense on these cards).

Again, yes not the point at all here, as the 7950GT is the topic. But I stand by my statement that the 7900GTX loses more than it wins to the X1900XTX, and those links that just came out today back up that statement perfectly. So the point that if X1900XTX >= 7900GTX and 7900GTX is clocked quite a bit higher than 7950GT, then X1900XTX > 7950GT. But we don't have to derive that now, just read todays reviews and it's obvious. ;)
