Help!
I want to buy all the parts tonight and I am not sure about what problems I might run into. After reading around, some people say that the OCZ RAM is good, others are having problems with the MB/RAM combination. Any tips will be appreciated. Also, is the video card any good? All the posts here seem to lean towards the 7900GT so I randomly picked one.

I checked Newegg and the 7600GT is ~$283 after shipping. I'd wait until next Tuesday when Newegg is supposed to get a new shipment of MSI X1900XTX cards. After MIR, it's ~$284. MSI X1900XTX - $284

Yes, I meant the 7900GT. Oops.

I'm assuming then you're in Canada? Does this mean you can't buy from Newegg? If you can, the X1900XTX is soooo much a better card for the same price it isn't even funny.

Take a look at the following benches (High End VC Benches and 7900GT Benches), if this doesn't convince you to wait a few days, then nothing will.

Ultimately it's your call but if by chance you want to play Oblivion, the X1900XTX is the way to go over the 7900GT.

Edit: previous post had a 512 this one has the 256 of the X1900XT
Edit again: The link I provided is only the XT...doesn't have that extra X...most likely why the price is so cheap. The XTX cards are way more expensive but have 512MB of RAM... :S

Here is the store where I am buying all my stuff:

Here is the card you're suggesting?

http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=14080BD8495&v...

(Assume thats the one you're talking about as I can not find an ATI 256MB version at the store I am shopping at)

Here is the card I am buying

http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=10720BD3706&v...

$30 difference...but I had already processed my order!! :'(  Why is it that most places I read on this forum pushed the 7900GT...

I am so confused

Ya MSI had had a nice deal on their 512 1900xtx's. Had a $150 mail in rebate that took it down to $278 or so. I hate it that I missed it. Dont think its good in Canada though.
I couldnt get your links to work either..

Yeah, we can't buy from Newegg in Canada.

Can't say why some people pushed the 7900GT. It might of been price. It might be Nvidia fanboys. I try to suggest the best bang for the buck. (I currently have a 6600GT.) I have read other forums stating that video cards are way more expensive in Canada. I've looked at several Canadian computer sites and this does seem to be the case.

The 7900GT will handle most games with no problem so don't feel that you got a bum deal. The main game that the 7900GT will have trouble with is Oblivion which from the benchmarks looks like it'll need to be played in 1024x768 resolution to get modest framerates.

The card I suggested did have the extra "X" in it, MSI X1900XTX. Because of the MIR, the XT & XTX are pretty much the same price and thusly the XTX is the card I would then recommend.

Anyway, if you plan on getting a DX10 card next year, just look at various sites to get benchmarks so you know what card you want if you play certain games. Tom's Hardware, Anandtech, etc. One of the guys in the forums mentioned Legion Hardware which I was unaware of and seems pretty good.

Enjoy you new system.

In terms of NewEgg I've never looked at them or looked at whether or not they are available for canadians. But 1Tanker says that they don't so I guess the answer is there. Therefore I'm still good for the 7900GT? :D  I also found buying a video card to be the hardest component...I don't really play games but would want to have a card that could...again..so confused! :p
September 14, 2006 4:23:23 PM

I guess the canadian links dont like americans...
You will be fine with that card, no worries.
September 14, 2006 4:48:59 PM

Hope the card is good, we'll see! :p  Order is in...now its just time for waiting and hoping that I get everything without a problem. Always hate it when things come in and then there is a problem and I have to ship some stuff back :S.
