Hi,

I kindly request you help.

My mobo is a MSi K8TM-ILSR
http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=K8TM-ILSR

and I just got a WD250 SATA2/300 16mb cache HD.

though it's not detected even in the bios settings.

I have ensured I have done the latest MSi live updates, including the VIA PIDE/SATA RAID Drivers & Utility download.
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_detail.php?UID=574&kind=1

Yet, when it runs throught the first bios start up, it's not detected, and then goes to some raid bios screen (but has no options to config). I have checked in bios that SATA controller is enabled, and some S.M.A.R.T is also enabled, but nothing.

Any help or direction will be greatly appreciated.

I am runnning 2 other IDE drives (prim, and sec), and would like this new drive as a 3rd drive. - ideally for backups.

Did the boat leave without me?

Thanks
Skully

i'd actually like to know how to install a sata drive in windows if you haven't installed the drivers during the windows install process.

i tried to install my sata drive like you are trying, but the only way i found was to reinstall windows and hit F6 to load the drivers from floppy disk.

Checking for drive spin-up by sound is not very reliable, the best way I've found is to either place your hand on the drive as you power up the system or to hold the drive in your hand while the system is running and tilt it gently from side to side if it's spinning the gyroscopic force will try and keep it level, of course it goes without saying that both methods require a bit of care, as for the website I would try this first :- http://support.wdc.com/download/?cxml=n&pid=999&swid=3 but as I don't have any WD HDD I could'nt tell you if any good or not, however if your drive aint spinning then ther is no software that I know can help you

Thanks for your replies,

I brought the HD to work, where my work pc has exactly the same drive. At first it was not recognized, then ran the Datalife diagnostic tool, which found it and partition the drive and set it up as additional storage.

So the drive works. Now i just have to see if my pc at home (see original post) will see the newly partitioned drive.

Thanks

If the motherboard is SATA 150 then you may need to set the jumper on the HD to match. I had the same symptoms exactly, and the jumper change fixed it.
