Fan for a small space?

Hi. I have a pentium 4 560. I have read in places that this runs very hot. Recently I took the heatsink and fan off to clean it out a bit but when i put them back, my computer booted and then shutdown as though it was overheating. I did check that i had replaced the fan properly and it is working, believe me i can hear it! I noticed however that two of the four pins that keep the heatsink stuck to the motherboard are broken. I want to buy a new fan but i have limited space. It can not be any bigger than the stock cooling. Does anybody have any ideas? Thanks

No there is quite a lot of room above the processor. The PSU is in the way. I applies some more thermal stuff to the heatsink and processor and now the computer switches on but the fan is constantly on full blast.

I have done some research and have seen reviews of the Arctic Freezer 7 Pro. This is apparently good at higher fan speeds. Is this a good buy? From the look of it i think it will fit in my case

Your post is a bit cryptic. The AC Freezer Pro 7 is a very good buy for the money but the cooler is tall, meaning it's height perpendicular to the motherboard. Check you tolerances on whether or not it will fit.

Sorry i meant I have room above the processor but not too much to one side as the psu is in the way. i have bought one of those fans (arctic freezer 7 pro) but when i switch on my computer the fan runs etc but slowly stops. I have checked the BIOS and my motherboard doesnt support changing the fan speed. The fan does come on intermittently but i am a bit worried about it not going at all every so often. Is there a better alternative in the same price bracket or should i stick with what i bought?

Are you temps high or is the CPU throttling? If not, then I wouldn't worry about it.

The AC Freezer 7 Pro is an excellent heatsink for the money. Worthy of overclocking your 560, but that's a different story.

I have downloaded speedfan and from looking at that it seems to be keeping the CPU at about 60c at idle. Preferably i would like this to be lower but i dont see how to change it if my bios doesnt support this.

thats just it. When under load the fan starts going constantly and the temps dont go up. It's as though something is telling the fan to keep the CPU at 60 no matter what.

No it is a rubbish motherboard. Well seeing as some of the other temps read as -48c for example, and another one at 60 which just stays at 60, i thought the one that goes down when the CPU fan comes on would be the CPU temperature!

That isn't the same computer i have got but that is the same motherboard and hence the same BIOS that I get to look at!

I still don't think it's too big of a deal. However, you could just buy a 3-Pin to 4-Pin molex adapter and plug the CPU fan directly into the PSU. You might run into an issue in the BIOS stating that there is no CPU fan or that it has failed, but chances are you could disable the feature. The fan will run a full speed, but the AC Freezer Pro 7 fans are already quiet and chances are the noise will be acceptable.
