I am hearing a high pitch sound from my video card (at least i think it is from the card.) i noticed it when i got a major lag while playing kotr. I quickly minimized and checked the temp of the cpu and the card. both were fine and werent over heating.

i then did a bit of looking around and keep coming at it is the fan. but i checked the fan while playing and it looked good. I have a Radeon x1900xtx. its pretty new, at most 14 days old. Tommorow i am going to remove it from the case and look at it more closely, such as remove the cover of the fan and make sure nothing is touching it.

But i am also getting ready to RMA it from all the conclusions i got from other people. (sadly i must go through a box full of plastic to try to find the right one for the Digital-Analog adapter, and do i also need the sticker?!)

Please can anyone confirm on what is happening and what i should do. i have decided myself i will RMA on newegg on monday if it is not fixed. So far this is the only game ive had problems with. but i can hear the high pitch sound while on idle now.

From what I have heard, the X1900XTX cooler is really loud and obnoxious. Many people call it a "High pitched whine." If I were you, I would look around the forumz and make sure it isn't just the natural sound of the cooler.

normal? but how loud should it be? for me it was pretty darn loud and caused lag while it was happening. is that the way it works?
