hey hey people,

i've just recently moved from Melbourne to London, and i was wondering if anyone could recommend me some good, cheap places i could go to get me some hardware.

The only places i've seen so far have been either branded box sellers, or hideously overpriced high street computer stores.

any suggestions would be greatly welcome. i'm getting mighty sick of these cheap internet cafe pcs. :)

cheers

There are more, those should get you going. I find froogle.co.uk to be invaluable as well :D

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that Tottenham Court Road is the main place to get computer gear...but you can't be sure it'll work/be legal.

I'm not sure those places exist. Of course, one reason for the high prices is the 18% VAT.

cheers to you all for that info.

i've had a look at the sites you recommended, mkaibear. that should give me plenty of scope to play with. reasonable prices and postage as well.

that really is a huge difference between here and australia. there really is no point ordering online as postage will kill you to begin with, not to mention paying the 10% GST to customs on delivery. bah.

looks like i'll have my box up and running in no time now.

thanks again to all of you who replied.

Good selection, I would also add Komplett, excellent service.

I think these guys are in London, I got a good price on my 7900GT from them: http://www.advancetec.co.uk/

Shiny gave me a good price on my PSU: http://www.shinyhardware.co.uk/

And I've gotten various components here: http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/home/

But I found them all with your internet shopping pal Froogle: http://froogle.google.co.uk/

Firstly welcome to London dude and secondly the other posters have it wrong (no offence) Tottenham Court Road should only be done on a Saturday and then you want to get to the fairs one can be found in Cleaveland Street and there's another at Great Russell Street £2 to get in and most stuff is usually 10-20% cheaper than in the stores a bit of footwork is involved but you Aussies like a walkabout :) , also you could try Stratford, Carpenters Road again £2 to get in and stuff is always cheaper than in the stores everything is legal and above board and all your usual consumer rights still apply 8)
