Hi i have a 7900 GT that I am trying to OC with coolbits, does anyone have an idea what safe temperatures would be for the video card?

ATI's tend to put up with heat a little better than nVidia's cards...

...but that's out of necessity, because they run hotter.

I've had both a 7900GT and an X1900XT, and the X1900 definitely runs hotter (I've seen it get up to 81C, mildly overclocked!). No artifacting, though, which made me happy.

Fortunately, the card throttles itself down when not being gamed upon, I've seen it in the 40s in that mode. Cool n' quiet then...

Yeah the x1900 series are faster but have a much larger die area and higher power requirements, hence the higher temps.

The 7900GT will start to show artifacts above about 65°C in my experience. I can hit 725 on the core @ 1.55v but thats pushing the temps on air with the GT cooler. The core is safe to about 1.7v, as 1.6v is stock on the 7900GTX, but you'd need water to cool it at that voltage.

My 9800xt used to idle at 73c and on load used to go up 75c and the fan used to be on full speed constantly.

Now have an X1900xt CF which idles at about 50c. I used CCC overdrive to find the max settings and temp rose to 89c! 8O Using it at stock settings at the moment though cos I just bought it and dont want to risk anything.
