Does anybody have this setup?
I´m between the 7800gs and 7600gt agp, and I´d like to play at native resolution. I´ve been digging the web, but I´d like to hear some opinions.
I know if I was playing at 1280x1024, the 7600gt would be the right choice.

Next week I´ll go shopping.

Thanks

Depends what you're playing. Some games, evcen 1280 res will be too hard for the 7600 GT, and other games, the 7600 GT might be passable at 1600 res.

So what games you playin'?

For example, I'm currently into playing Oblivion and Civ 4 (not at the same time, thought). I've got a Intel Pentium D 830, 2 GB of RAM, and an ATI X1800GTO card. Civ 4 works fine at native resolution on my monitor (Viewsonic vx2025wm @ 1680x1050), but I have to cut Oblivion down to something like 1200x900 (I'll have to check when I get home) as well as cutting down some of the eye candy.

For something like Oblivion, neither card will likely drive your system at native resolution with full graphics.

Depends; my native resolution is 1680x1050, and I still can't play all of my games quite how I want at that resolution.

Well, mostly valve's games (buying hl episode 1 right away), fear, bf2, cod2.
Not oblivion though.

Nothing has to be maxed out; just medium settings with no AA.

So, for what I see, there's no clear winner.
Do you know, for any chance, if there is any game where the 7800 smacks the 7600?
Otherwise, 307€ it's too much to pay for the XFX version in Europe.
Thanks

Actually, for the Valve games, a 7800GS should be able to play 1680x1050 with 2xAA pretty well at near maximum quality, if not maximum.

So, maybe I´ll stick with the 7800gs.
I´ll search ebay for a Gainward bliss+ for more 50€- This would be nice.

Thank you all for your replies.

if u can get a pci-e mobo for like i dunno, and get a pci-e card, because i believe the 7800gs costs like $200, so lets say an $80 mobo and that gives u $120, and with that u can either get an x850xt or a 7600gt, and it gives u room to upgrade down the road, now if ur cpu is s754.. ust forget what i just said

Well, I have two reasons why I don´t want to change to pci-e.

Changing mobo would cost a windows reinstall along with with the reinstallation of 100 programs and backing up 400Gb of data that I have in the OS hdd, plus all the work disassembling and assembling all.

And getting a pci-e mobo, would left me without money. Check it out:

I get a pci-e mobo!! Cool!, I´ll get a 7600gt...well, now I can upgrade...I´ll buy a 7900gt...oh crap, my cpu is holding me down...I´ll get a 775 mobo and a conroe...oh sh*t, this cpu it´s fast like hell, I´ll get a 7950gx2! Surfing the web I found new (working) drivers for quad sli...I have to get one more 7950gx2....

Oh sh*t, my wife left me!!!!!
