Building a new system and can't decide which Hard Drive to use.
Currently looking at:

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB SATA2 3GB/S 7200RPM 16MB Cache NCQ
Western Digital Caviar SE16 250GB SATA2 7200RPM 16MB 8.9MS

They will run on a P5B-Deluxe with a C2D E6400.
Just waiting on this to order so your help is appreciated. Can't find any good comparison reviews on those two HDs.
Which one will be faster/quiter?

Thanks

Go for the Seagate. It has a higher data throughput than the WD Caviar does. The noise level is about the same I believe....

no is not my friend........and i`m not so sure about the speed either .... there are both speedy drives so nothing to worry....

as for the noise comparing seagate 320 with wd2500js or ks ..is like comparing a grinding machine with a silent cat........wd2500js is silent (pleasant sound anyway) and seagate 200, 250, 320....(all tested) .. have a very high noise level (including the new perpendicular recording)(other seagate brands like st380011as and st316017as are very silent...less platters)....strong metalic sound in seek mode.....

in idle they are both silent

My dad has a Barracuda 7200.10 320GB drive in his computer right behind me as I am typing this. At this very moment he is moving a VMware image from another drive to the Seagate. I cannot hear either drive at all. Either you are overly sensitive to noise, or you just like WD better......
