Keyboard issue?

A few weeks ago my cousin gave me his toshiba sattellite 2112 and i was asked to remove what i thought was a virus/trojan...at this point im very confused about what the problem is...The keyboard wouldnt reaact to all keys certain keys, such as U typed UIO...and the computer would not finish start up after logging on, also it has low battery life.. After this point i put in a new hard drive, but i cant do anything because it boots off the drive, and the keyboard still has the same symptoms...please..and help would be appreciated...

i tried that..but i stil lcant get keys like F2 to react

Did anyone ever spill something on it? I remember having a keyboard a while back that someone spilt coffee on and then a few keys stuck together, such as the UIO problem and other keys just wouldnt work.
