i just ordered a new system with

X2 3800+ AM2
2GB DDR-800 corsair XMS ram
Asus M2N-E mobo
X800XL

How far is it likley it will overclock?
i would really like to get 2.8 Ghz (so i am officially within UT2007 specs) :)
how far would it get with an artic cooling freezer 64 pro?
and what are acceptable proc temps, so that i dont go and kill it in overclocking (i will probably clock down to stock after i see how far it goes)
would i be able to get the gfx card to X800 XT levels if i got a good cooler?

also, i plan to water cool in in about a year, but more for the fun of it than the cooling/noise benefits

**EDIT** Since i am insane, i went through a long thought process, and decided to cancel the X800 XL and get an X1900XT 256MB, so now i dont want to trust a case standard power supply, can anybody reccomend a power supply under $100, but preferably under $70 that i can get from www.ncix.com?

You don't need a 2.8GHz AMD64 CPU to play UT 2007. Those specs are written for a Pentium 4. Most likely the X2-3800+ OR the E6300 will run UT 2007 fine at stock CPU speed.

Go on gamespot.com and find a "will my pc run this game". When my X2 3800+ was at stock it was performance rated at 5.7GHz. With Arctic Cooling 64 im at 2.6 at 34C idle, 42 load. I HIGHLY recommend the Arctic Cooling 64 Pro for overclocking. Only thing is I used to have the M2N-E MB but it was wierd at overclocking, so I got a DFI Infinity and it works alot better. I might just of had a bad MB though b/c it died in a few months.

yeah, i know that it would be good enough, but it would be cool

i am gonna assume(hope like hell) it was your motherboard, cus i have read good things about ocing on this mobo.

but the bigger issue now is, a PSU, i may start another thread after checking for an already existing one

Ouch. I'll try to be nice about it. That mobo is probably the worst OC'er for AM2. OK, that wasn't very nice, but...

Really. Most people got a max of 230Mhz HTT, which translates to 2.3Ghz for you. Very bad OCing motherboard. Avoid. I'm sorry.

The DFI Infinity Ultra-II AM2 or something like that is a very good OCer.

But this is all a moot point. 2.8 is for P4s. 1.8 for AMDs.

I think that 2.6 is much more realistic with air cooling, I have a similar setup, but in socket 939 and I run mine at 2.4ghz and lowered the voltage to 1.325v and it is 12 hours prime 95 stable!

**** i got the wrong mobo, i had thought it was this one. well, i guess ill have to try to cancel my order, this will make it easier to get the new gfx card at least, and i found a better pricematch for the ram

thanks for telling me, i searched and found that you were right

i may switch to a core 2 duo with a p5b...
