I have the Intel D975XBX motherboard. It comes with 2 SATA chips - an Intel chip running SATA II and a Silicon Image 3114 chip running SATA I. Each supports 4 drives. I do not do RAID. I need to use all 8 SATA ports for individual drives. No problem on the Intel ports, but problem on the Silicon Image ports. Silicon Image makes 2 different drivers for its SATA chips - a RAID driver (for RAID support) and a BASE driver (for individual drive support). It seems Intel only paid for the RAID driver. Intel acknowledges that a BASE driver exists that has been reported to work with this motherboard, however they cannot provide me with the driver. Silicon Image of course sends me to Intel since they sold the chip to Intel. The 2 companies point at each other while the customer gets screwed in the middle. Some people have managed to get a working BASE drive for this motherboard. I need to find one of them and get the driver from them, or find someone inside Intel or Silicon Image willing to get it to me. Any tips? I did try downloading the 3114 PCI card driver from the Silicon Image web site, but it doesn't recognize the presence of the 3114 in the Intel configuration.
