I have a home network with four workstations & one server running through a switch and a router with three static IP's through my cable modem. It is wired like so...
Cable Modem
|
Switch
|\\
Router \ Server \ Workstation (each with there own static IP)
|\\
ws ws ws
I'm a novice at networking but I have made it this far... I have it wired like this because of a few resons.
First I wanted to start a dedicated web/gaming server. Second I was having probolems with two or more people playing the same online games at the same time, so I put a gaming ws outside the router. This also means that if I want to share data between my server and a ws behind the router I have to phisicaly connect the server to my router. All of my probolems revolve around my LinkSYS Cable/DSL router...
I know, I get what I pay for... I have read so many articales, posts and tech sheets talking about simular probolems and the LinkSYS.
I'm upgrading my computer cases to rack mount cases (to save much needed space). I am ready to spend a good amount of money on a rack mounted router. Will a really good router solve all of my networking issuse and get rid of alot of needless equipment ? Any sugestions on which router I should get ?
(If you are wondering why I have so many computers at home it is because I deal with hardware on a daily basis and build computers constently... and I'm addicted to seti@home & multiplayer gaming.)
