Hi - I plan on building a quad core machine when they become available. It will be used about 75% for a home recording studio with lots of multi-tasking and will require fast read/writes to the drives. I plan on using 2 WD 10000 rpm Raptors with a large 7200 rpm drive for backup. I would also like to include an older PATA drive but it's not entirely required. I'm not really clear on what the different chipsets will support. Could someone point me towards a tutorial or source of info on drive controllers so I can be sure I'm getting a MOBO that fits my needs? TIA...stevenpchurch

Most (if not all) modern motherboards will include enough SATA ports and RAID options to do what you want. The PATA ports are going down to one (2 drives supported) so that you may want to use a PCI card with ATA133 for your backup drive. You could also run it with your optical drive if you only need one. Read thru entries in the storage area of this forum to get a feel for what people do.

well just browse to the mobo official site and see the specification. it's usually written in their specification list that the mobo includes how much pata/sata port and the raid type (0,1,5,jbod), and so on.
