Hey Guys, I am planning to build my first computer. It will mainly serve as a gaming computer, as well a school tool. The OS will be Windows XP Pro. Here are my core components, second revision:

ASUS P5B Deluxe/WiFi-AP Socket T (LGA 775)
E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor
SAPPHIRE Radeon X1900XT 100149 Video Card
Segate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA (x2)
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800
NEC DVD+R 3550A
Samsung 204B
NeoPower 550W
Antec P-180B Case
Logitech MX1000
Logitech G15

Do you think that all these pieces will function well together? Here is a list of the games that I would like to play on it: Rise of Nations, Rise of Legends, Civilization 4, Command and Conquer: The First Decade, Command and Conquer 3 (when it comes out), and Star Wars: Empire at War. My price window is $2100 - 2400. Thanks for the help.

No such thing as future proof, if you want it now then buy it now and im sure there will be a midrange card that will be in expensive that will support DX10 and be as good as or better than the X1900XT and you can sell that vid card on ebay and then buy the new card if you want direct x 10 and that is if you will be running vista immediatly, which I will not be doing myself!!!

Nice system!

Best,

Neopower?

550w?

The main differences between a NeoHE and a TruePower are that the Neo is more efficient (HE= High Efficiency), and the Neo has 3 +12V rails, as opposed to 2 for the TruePower. Oh, yeah; the Neo is a couple bucks more than the TruePower. They're both great PSUs, and you can't go wrong with either.

The setup I ordered is almost the exact same with a few small changes. I went with an Antec SOLO case (P150 less the PS), A Seasonic S12 600W power supply, and a Viewsonic VX922 monitor. I like the seasonic because its quiet and one of the most efficient you can get. I got the SOLO cause it saved me a few dollars, I don't like drive doors that can jam my optical drives (personal preference), it eliminated the need for any power cable extensions (although the newer S12s don't have that problem anyways) and the solo matched the VX922 :). Either way I think you'll be very pleased with the system.

You don't need that powerful of a system to play any of those games. I mean it won't hurt, but you could definitely cut back a little and still be fine.
