does hp deskjet 840 always makes black mixing color inks?

Hi, I was wondering if the HP 840 always mixes color inks for printing
black (except on text), like it does on black line art graphics, such
as simple tables? Is there a way to make it print using only the black
ink? Cuz I usually only print on black, but I keep replacing the color
cartridge 2 or 3 times more often than the black.
