Optical Drive Crashing CPU (PLEASE HELP!)

I just bought a new logitech multi drive (dvd burner and cd combo) and i took out the old cd burner and installed the new drive.

Smooth sailing all the way until i inserted the cd into the new drive and poof! The cpu crashes completely. It will go to read the cd and after a few seconds it will crash and power cycle.

Windows recognizes the drive it shows up everywhere and the only problem is that it crashes the cpu.

i know the rig im using will support the drive and everything is plugged in properly. Am i missing something obvious or is this a comman problem?

Anything at all will help thanx.

My first thought would be an insufficient power supply. Post your complete computer specs, including those on the power supply (total output, voltage rails, brand and model number...)

That is something i was somewhat pondering as well.

Specs:

AMD 2500+
256 MB RAM
64 MB MX440-TX Video card
40 GB HD
400 watt PSU- Powerlink LPK2-30
(i know its older but still should be able to take this drive)

The dvd multi drive i was installing is an LG GSA-H10N

Hmm..... if you have a friend with a spare PSU which puts out more than 15A on the 12V rail, try plugging it into your comp and see how the LG drive reacts to it.
