Hey All

Im new here but been reading toms for a couple of years now so just like to say Hi to all.

Im thinking of either buying a 7950GT or Xbox360 since its finnaly getting released in my country but I dont know which to choose to buy the Xbox 360 and then wait for DX10 and vista or buy a 7950 GT now and wait and get one of the new 360's that are going to come with a HD drive.

My other option is this.
Im currently running a AMD 3500 with a Radeon X800XL and a gig of OCZ ram.To buy a full a new rig with a Core2Duo its going to cost me more than double than buying a 360.
(I like the underdogs and all but im going to buy best bang for buck and the thats the Core2Duo currently sos AMD)

So Option 1: Buy 7950GT wait for new xbox360
Option 2: Buy 360 and wait for vista
Option 3: Skip both and buy Core2duo pc
Option 4: Skip all and buy new pc with vista.
Option 5: Buy a 360 now and new pc after Vista launches.

So far im leaning towards buying a 360 and then to buy a new pc a couple of months after vista is released.(Launch Specials and all for the 360)

So thats it let me know what you think. :D

How soon after Vista launches do you want to get it- launch day, couple months, or after SP1 comes out? You have a 3500+ CPU, which isn't all that slow. Getting a 79xx card would last you awhile. You're leaning towards a Xbox now so I assume you intend to build up a large game collection for it? If not, then Option 4. I personally think the console market will die in the next couple years. But if you intend to get a fair number of 360 games and will really make use of it, go with Option 5.

Neither...

a new X1900 XT 256mb for $240 at Newegg... better than a 7950 GT, and cheaper too:

But if there's a killer Xbox game you want, and it's not PC available, you're kind of stuck... then again, if you are a big First Person Shooter player, stick with the PC.

I'd go with option 5. Your PC is still good enough for recent games; whatever games you have on PC, don't get them for the 360. A cost-effective upgrade might be an Athlon X2 now, along with another GB of RAM. Then, when Vista comes out, you can buy that, along with a DX10 video card.
