Hi everybody,

Yes, my very first post, i'm so glad to be here at the best forumz ever !

I'm waiting for the Asus P5N32-SLI Premium-WiFi-AP nForce 590 SLI
and i am about to buy all other components while wainting, so

If i buy a 2gb ddr2 memory 1066, will be run in this board ?, i mean in the specifications says 1066 / 800 / 533 MHz FSB and memory supported 800 / 667 / 533, so, the memory will not work at all, of only will work a 800 ?

If a buy a 1066 EPP module, can i overclock better than a 800 EPP one, i like to have a 1:1 ratio.

My other questions is which brand and better: Corsair or Kingston in the 800 and 1066 EPP modules ?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Looks like a nice board!

Yes. Memory rated at a given speed can always be run slower. This post might be helpful to you:

All else being equal, it should be possible to OC the 1066 module faster than the 800 module. However, the MB may not be able to handle such a high speed. Also, remember that Core2Duo FSB runs at 266MHz (quad-pumped for 1066MHz effective data transfer), so 1:1 data transfer rate is at DDR2-533 (266MHz memory bus x2 for DDR x2 for dual-channel = 1066MHz effective data transfer).

Many thanks, i was afraid to waste my money in a non working module, looks like i stick with a ddr2-800 epp intead of.

The only thing left is to decide wich brand to go, which are better, kingston or corsair ?

When i get extra cash i'll probably buy the another 2gb for archieve 4 gb.

To clarify, I think wusy means the FSB (not the memory bus), since the board listing says it will run DDR2-667 (=333MHz) and DDR2-800(OC), whatever that "OC" actually means. Running DDR2-800 memory speed even w/o a highly OCed CPU/FSB will gain you a bit of performance improvement over running at DDR2-533, but the big performance gains, as wusy implies, come from OCing the CPU. That's why it's important to get an idea of MB limits if you plan to OC. OCing is a "package deal;" you can't just plug in a fast component and expect improvement if the other system components can't handle higher speed.

Any DDR2-800/1066 memory won't actually become "useless", btw. The MB just may not be able to run it at its rated speed or faster. It will still work fine if run at slower speed, e.g. DDR2-667 or DDR2-533.

:D I think i see the light..

Ok, so i will not buy the 1066, and concentrate the most in actual
cpu overclocking.

Sorry to ask again but, Kingston epp or corsari epp ?

Greetings.

I would in general take a corsair kit over a Kingston although Hyper X is good stuff. Corsair is widely considered the best in the biz interms of all around performance, it always works, runs reliably, and kicks ass. HOWEVER I would suggest a Gskill 2 gig DDR 800 kit from Newegg it runs about $260 sexy and black with great timings 4 4 4 8 also has a max safe voltage of 2.1v I am running one of these, it is my second Gskill kit, which I have had great experiences with. For reference Gskill isn't some random off brand it is Samsungs High performance lineup and samsung is the brand that puts super high performance GDDR on our graphics boards (most of the time)

Do you really need EPP... your paying a premium on things you can probably do yourself. All EPP does is set optimal timings for you, but I'm sure playing around with it yourself is much more satisfactory, not to mention you save quite a bit of money.
