7900gs: alternative cooler?

I am reading up a bit before putting a new system together. The 7900gs looks very attractive to me, but I am just a bit worried about noise, so I suspect I might want to replace the cooler.
Now, the 7900gs has a temperature controlled cooler as far as I know. Will it be possible to use this temperature control with alternative coolers(like zalman or thermalright)?

Thanks,
Frits

No mate it cant , they generally draw their power directly from the PSU although i could be wrong , however i can tell you from experiance that the Zalman can be run on 6v or 12v the first being slower but quieter , when i had mine on my 6800 i installed a switch to alternate between the 2 voltages , 12v for gaming 6v for dvd's etc.

But i think you'll be surprised how quiet the 7900 cooler is , its a very cool chip so the fan is rarely at "full tilt" before you buy aftermarket cooling give it a try on stock see what you think :D

Thanks. I'll try one out first before ripping it apart
I suppose with the 7900gs being so new it is a bit too much to expect aftermarket coolers to fit right away.
Cheers!

The 7800GT followed the same basic design as the 6800GT, and the 7900GT is basically just a die-shrink of the 7800, the 7900GS is a 7900GT with one "quad" disabled. Thus, MOST aftermarket GPU fans will work great on the 7900GS.

Yup, there's plenty that will fit, but if the temperature control doesn't mesh with an aftermarket cooler then what's the point? This should be a lot more flexible then setting a cooler to a fixed voltage.
