Comparing an X850 and a 7600GT in 1024 X 768 in Oblivion, the X850 has 21 fps to the 7600GT's 13, beating the 7600gt very badly, but the 7600gt gets about 350 more in 3dmark 06........

I'm assuming this is because the 7600GT is running ps3 and hdr, etc, hence the lower benchmark in this case?

I'm guessing this is why a 7600GT will bench lower than an X850 in ps3 applications.

Now I've read that if you have PS3, it will run PS2 applications even faster, just like if you have DX9 and you force DX7 like you do in call of duty you get an fps boost by running the dx9 card in a lower dx mode.

Basically forcing a card to run lower than its maximum specifications whether its dx9 to dx7 or ps2 to ps3 will improve performance and should be accounted for in these benchmarks.

Keeping that in mind, if you had a 7600GT and used rivatuner to force the shader version to 2.0, like an X850 is standard, would it then surpass the X850 in this particular benchmark???

The Oblivion engine only uses Pixel Shader 2.0, from what i have read.

It uses HDR as well, but that's not part of the PS 3.0 standard.

On the Oblivion benches without HDR, the 7600 GT and X850 XT are on an even keel.
