Hi all

I am looking for a chat program that can:
- Work correctly without a working internet connection
- Clients can use web browser to chat, so that clients don't install anything special
- Free (Not free trial or evaluation, literally absolutely free) DBabber(? Sorry forgot how to spell) is not free
- (optional) The computer will make a sound whenever a chat message has been sent

It sounds like all the clients will be inside your LAN? If so, then you will need a web server (which can be installed on a desktop PC) and one of MANY free chat applications.

Provide more details and we can get into more specifics.

I want to have a chat server that runs on Windows 7 laptop.

The server and all its clients will not have access to the internet at time of use.

I want the server to run on just one laptop, and clients can connect to the server and chat on it without installing extra programs.

An example is DBabble but it is not free...I am looking for something like DBabble

OK, then you can install a free web server like Apache on the laptop, then install a chat server like phpFreeChat. This is just an example, there are MANY free chat server software packages.

You mentioned that there are many free chat server sw packages, what are they with the supplied req?
