I am currently going to get a new system in a week or two, a $1900 game rig that multitasks also for programming/web design.
-E6600 Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz
-Asus P5B Deluxe
-X1900 XT 512 MB
-Seagate Barracuda 250 GB SATA II
-Samsung 20.1 Inch LCD
-NZXT Apollo or Antec P180B Case
-Corsair XMS2 2 GB DDR2 800 RAM 5-5-5-12 Latency
-Sound Blaster Audigy 4 Pro
What should my current rig PSU power be??
I was planning on getting a Antec Truepower II 550W to power this rig, but heard that nex-gen GPUs will take up a huge amount of power - I will be upgrading the Gfx in about 8-10 months from now, about 5-6 months after DX10 Debut, preferably when DX10 secnond gens come out.
After some browsing, I selected this PSU for my system, to last me for DX10.
Will this last me through DX10 cards??? ( I would get a 8800 GT, or similar, definitely not GTX levels)
Think the 700W version should be a better choice?
I would not be surprised if the 600 watt unit would get the job done, but I'd get the 700. I was faced with a similar decision a few months ago and got the 700 when it popped up with a nice MIR. It's been rock solid.
What do you guys think about the 700W compared to the 600W in terms of Price vs. Performance?
I'm a little tight on my budget, so I'm trying to look for the best value
(25$ dollar difference and perhaps overkill???)
It's a tough call. I talked to OCZ at the time I was about to buy and the tech service guy led me to the 700 because I was planning to do XFire. Thing is, DX10 eats about as much 12V as XFire. I understand the tight budget aspect but at the same time you don't want to use this one a while then have to upgrade. On paper, the 600 looks to be plenty of power for your future spec but if you can squeeze in the $25, I'd do the 700.
if you going 700W why dont got 750W isntead? the price diffrerence is not much (max 20 bucks) and youll maybe need that extre 50W in a future, specially if u goin crossfire and / or directX10 cards
