I need to build a pc on a tight budget. I only got about 500 600 to work with, dont know if I should go with amd or intel, but i think intel may have more bang for my buck. I'v heard about the asrock 775 dual vsta, but I dont need backwords compatible. I need a whole new system, i'm giveing my athlon xp rig to my bro. so i'm goin to need case, psu, mobo, cpu, video card, all new ram, and a sata, I got a external dvd burner and a internal cd writer. I just need an idea of what to build on.

Thanks.

i just built an amd system which includes: amd x2 3800+ dual core cpu, asrock am2 motherboard, 1gb of 667mhz ram, WD250GB SATAII hard drive, 550watt power supply, with a sweet case for about, 600 bucks. The speed of the computer is unbelievably fast. Everything is basically instant. Anyways, hope i was of some help.

wow, thanks I would rather go with amd anyway, but I heard that the am2 platform was not yet perfeced or "has holes in it" so to speak.

the low end amd cpus are cheaper than intel's and not much slower. the slowest core 2 is bout the same price as a 4200-4400 and not much faster. a 3600 or 3800x2 is probably better value for you buget.

I'd go with the system ThaCriminal suggested with the following possible adjustments...same price after rebate.:

The GB board is one of the BEST overclockers aroung so you *could* have an FX62 performer for a fraction of the cost, and the 7600GT would smoke the ATI board.

Either way, I appreciate that others, like myself, realize you CAN build a kick @$$ machine for low bucks!!

Antec Solution Computer Case 350W Power Supply $60

Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 $180

AMPO 1GB (2 x 512MB) DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) $90

HITACHI Deskstar 160GB SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive $54

BFG Tech Geforce 7600GT $114

GIGABYTE GA-965P-S3 Intel P965 Express Motherboard $117

Grand total of $615 before shipping and after rebates. If you feel you could spend a little more go for the Antec case with 450W, its $100 w/free shipping.

But if you want a cheaper system you can go with AM2, Just swap the mobo for the MSI K9N Neo-F ($77) and the processor for an X2 3800+ ($154). It comes to $66 less and still a top performer that will be easier to upgrade than an Intel system.

Both motherboard have the lastest chipsets so theyll perform well and both CPUs are very overclockable to if youre up for it you can get top performers at a very low price.
