I do a lot of printing. Far too much to resort to OEM cartridges.
Could you lurkers out there suggest where I might acquire quality bulk
inks for my Canon and HP printers? I would appreciate you help.
Thanks in advance.

From my personal experience MIS inks are very, very good. I use
http://www.inksupply.com/ to purchase them.

Remember, the most important fact to know about the ink you intend to
use is how it performs which only an experienced user can testify to.
All other info about the ink is totally insignificant, useless and unneeded.

I don't use refills in my HP... I have bought refills once from
www.lasermonks.com.

For my canons i've been using MIS www.inksupply.com . They do a decent
job. After the 3rd refill I had to do a heavy leaning for the cyan...
so unlike other users I can't claim a perfect track record, but it's
pretty good. The total volume i've used is two ounces for each refill
except for the pigment black and dye black, which I consume less than
1/2 that of the other colors.

This guy did a test of what I use vs canon vs some other guys I have no
experence with.

IF YOU DO IN FACT HAVE A HIGH PRINTLOAD THEN YOU MOST LIKELY DO NOT HAVE
CHOICE AND WILL HAVE TO PUT UP WITH THE WHORES WHO SELL AFTERMARKET INKS.

WHILE SENSINENT, MAKER OF FORMULABS APPEARS TO BE THE BEST IN
AFTERMARKET INK THEY WILL ONLY SELL DIRECT IF YOU BUY INK BY THE
GALLON. THEY DO SELL TO VENDORS BUT MOST OF THESE VENDORS WILL NOT
DISCLOSE THE MFG/FORMULATOR OF THE INK THEY SELL.

IT GETS WORSE. IF YOU WANT TO AVOID THE MESSY PAIN IN THE ASS OF
REFILLING CARTS AND WANT TO BUY PREFILLED CARTS THEN YOU WILL NEVER KNOW
WHAT IS IN THEM. YOU CAN HAVE PROBLEMS WITH CARTS FROM ONE VENDOR, THEN
SSWITCH VENDORS AND WIND UP WITH THE SAME THING.

IT IS A TOUGH CALL. BE CAREFUL NOT TO GET A PRINT CLOG. IFYOU DO PRINT
A LOT AND DO NOT LEAVE YOUR PRINTER FOR LONG BETWEEN PRINT JOBS THEN YOU
SHOULD BE ABLE TO REDUCE THE RISK.

JUST BE CAREUL OF ALL OF THE KIDS AND OLD FARTS ON THIS FORUM WHO THRIVE
ON FIXING PROBLEMS.

Who could be such an incompetent klutz that he would have any problem
refilling a cartridge (especially Canon, which even the biggest fool on
earth could refill with his eyes closed)?

Oh, you are? Sorry! I guess you can't do anything for yourself, then.
Better log off quick, before you screw up your computer.

Seriously, if you can't do simple things like this for yourself, you
should be institutionalised! Oh! maybe you already are. .... That would
explain everything.

AND IF YOU BELIEVE THIS PUTZ THEN I HAVE A BRIDGE IN BROOKLYN I WOULD
LIKE TO SELL YOU. ALL OF THE PROFESSIONIAL REVIEWERS HAVE CATEGORICALLY
STATED THAT AFTERMARKET INKS CAN CAUSE PROBLEMS FOR YOUR PRINTER, ARE
NOT AS DURABLE, AND YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU ARE GETTING. ADDITIONALLY
THEY ARE NOT CONSISTANT FROM BATCH TO BATCH.

YOU CAN USUALLY TAKE A RISK IN AN HP THAT HAS THE INK AND PRINTHEAD
COMBINED. THE ONLY RISK THERE IS LEAKAGE AND A LOSS OF A FEW DOLLARS.
BUT THE RISK IS MUCH HIGHER IN EPSON AND CANON PRINTERS WHERE YOU ARE
RISKING THE PRINTHEAD.

There is no risk with well chosen inks such as those recommended by
actual experienced users in this newsgroup, you paranoid babbling fool
(and, by the way, your capslock key is stuck on)

Your well reasoned response, filled with expertise gained from your
years of experience, has once again put me in my place. I am humbled by

I notice their part number for very different inks from HP map to the same
refill ink. For example, they say the #57 and #97 use the same inks, and also
have the same inks for the #56 and #96. In reality these inks are
significantly different and the printers have different color maps and
servicing requirements. Your mileage may vary....

A day or so back, you responded with the following post regarding my
request for sources of bulk ink. Thanks for the response. If I may,
can I please tweak you for a little more information?

First, be advised that all my printing is black and white text. I do
not even install the color ink tanks in my Pixma IP3000. In that
regard, I had been of the impression that the inks used in the Canon
OEM black ink tank was pigmented ink. I note that all the MSI inks
for Canons offered by www.inksupply.com appear to be dye based only.
While the issue of water resistance is unimportant to me, I worry that
it might not be a good idea to take a Canon OEM tank that was
previously filled with pigmented ink and refill it bith dye based ink.
Do you know if there are any compatibility issues here?

Also, would you know if printhead clogging would be less likely with
dye based ink as opposed to pigmented?

MIS state that their Canon compatible inks "are Canon equivalent inks".
I strongly suggest you contact MIS directly for their verbal response to
your question(s)as I am strictly an end user and my opinions are based
solely on actual usage. I do represent any company, distributor,
reseller or retailer.
Seeing as how I use both dye and pigment based inks my personal usage
experience has not shown pigment based inks to clog any more than dye
based inks. In fact clogs seem to be more a factor of (in)frequency of
usage than type of ink used. I simply don't have any head clogs because
I print daily.

Dipping the MIS black into water does not have the same effect that the
photo black (dye) does. The photo black mixes easily where the "black"
acts as like a big dark cloud that falls to the bottle of the water.
This leads me to believe that it's pigment, but by all means ask them.

> First, be advised that all my printing is black and white text. I do

Keep in mind that the ip3000 from what i've served uses a composite
black (cyan magenta yellow mixed) if the content of a page, even text,
contains one color in it. I.e. if you had a word in blue, the printer
would print the whole bleeding thing using three colors to make black.
It's food for thought, the ip4000 has the dedicated black. I don't
know if hitting "print in grey scale only" has an effect on it.

In the past canon offered a pure black tank, i.e. a combo printhead and
huge 50+ml black tank. But alas that hasn't been an option for years.
