Thanks for that second link - did help.

I wonder if they're waiting for their Bearlake chipset (Q2/07) before releasing a 1333MHz fsb version.

Hopefully, Intel will provide more details at IDF next week.

So that people don't get confused, the $851 price for Kentsfield in that link is for a 2.4GHz version that is being used in single processor Xeon systems. The desktop Kentsfield will initially ship in a 2.67GHz Extreme Edition version at $999. A 2.4GHz mainstream Kentsfield won't be available until Q1 and will most certainly be priced lower than $851.

The price of the Core 2 Quadro Q6600 is likely to be higher than that of the premier Core 2 Duo, $530, but lower than that of the Core 2 Extreme, $999. The chips should be drop-in compatible with applications that support quad-core microprocessors, e.g., mainboards based on the Intel 975X chipsets that can work with Core 2 Duo.

Ouch, i see alot of disappointed people out there, maybe even financial lawsuits against companies guarenteeing quad core drop in capability with the 965 chipset...

The P965 chipset doesn't have blanket quad core compatibility simply because it's price range and target market varies from low-end to high-end. Some P965s, namely the mid-high end ones with better components, will be able to support Kentsfield. The only reason why the i975X "guarantees" capatibility is because it is a high-end chipset and hopefully always uses the best components.

Q6600 has twice the cache and 2 more cores than the Core 2 Extreme, how come it will be cheaper than the Extreme? And there is not much difference in clock speed (2.4 vs 2.9).

The Core 2 Extreme they are referring to in this case is the 2.67GHz Kentsfield Extreme. All Extremes are the same price anyways which is why even the 840EE is still officially priced at $999.
