Hi all,

I have a similiar problem asked by a forumer, my case is W98 PC is prompted for IPC$ password when accessing W2k / WXP PC's network resources, if sharing among all W2k / XP PC there is no such problem, so what is exactly this IPC$ network means? the prompt windows was :

connectino to network:
<computername>IPC$
Password :

[ok] [cancel]

I didn't set any password on the host PC or client PC, well i just can't figure out what is the password

these W98 / W2K / WXP are in the same workgroup named "HQ" and just W98 PC having this problem.

So can anyone enlighten me?

The IPC$ share is used with temporary connections between clients and servers by using named pipes for communication among network programs. It is primarily used for to remotely administer network servers.

try the net use command and declare your username/password.
