P5B or P5W, which one for a gaming rig?

I agree that either will do the job.

There are really two questions here:

1. What type of hardware do you want to hook up?

2. How much do you want to get into overclocking and getting every last Mhz of speed out of the motherboard?

The first only you can answer based on what you want to do. The P5W has more connection options but if you aren't going to use them why pay for them?

The second would point you towards the P5W the more extreme you want to get. At some point with water cooling, you will have so much performance that you won't be able to use it to increase game play anyway, so it becomes a need-4-speed just so you can say what you have accomplished. I have seen reports of 130 frames/second on some P5W systems that your brain can't begin to process or your eye's see. At some point it also becomes a large part of luck in what processor you got versus another processor of the exact same model. There can be a big difference in overclocking ability for the exact same hardware, when swapping out CPUs.
