I've got the U2711... great monitor and that price isn't bad either.

So tempted to buy two of those Dell 27" but good lord are they ugly as sin.

That is a nice monitor. I wish I had bought one instead of the cheaper HP version. The HP I got died after 5 days, the replacement died after 4 months. I'm on the third. (Lesson: don't buy HP monitors.) The Dell would probably still be going. The 2560X1440 res is very nice. I highly recommend it over 3D or a 1080p 27" screen. It's well worth the money.

I've had an Auria (microcenter sells them) 2560x1440 monitor for about two months and love it. Great picture quality and only $399.

I'd like to have 2560x1440 on a 24" LCD.

As far as LCDs dying go, my 20" LG died after ~4 years, brought back from the dead by changing a couple of 5V caps and a 25V one. I also had a 24" LG (bought about two years after getting the 20") and had to perform similar necromancy on it after two years. The two are now on their 7th and 5th years respectively.

IMO, the standard warranty on LCDs should be at least 5 years and engineering for failure should be a criminal offense similar to fraud - I'd gladly pay $2 extra for the added $0.30 total incremental cost of superior components (about $0.10 per cap x3 in my LCDs' cases and that's a cost difference based on 100s, the difference would likely be well below $0.03/cap when ordering by the 100k) if it lets my $300 LCDs last 7+ trouble-free years instead of 2.

I like them monitor dislike the company I've seen there colors customer support wise and its junk.

The Dell is typical PC Black... not really any uglier than any other PC monitor, or maybe I should say "as ugly as every other PC monitor. They're definitely not Apple Cinema displays, but functionally they do the job and for $300 less... a lot to pay for pretty.
