Thinking about using my 3 year old PSU on new system build, but no pci connectors... Do some pci video cards NOT need a line to psu? I thought I saw that somewhere. Specifically, do the 7600GT's need one or do they just power from the slot?

Hi mp... The card I'm looking at -
BFG Tech BFGR76256GTOCE Geforce 7600GT 256MB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814143049

My PSU info:

THERMALTAKE 480W ATX Silent Pure Power Xaser III W0014

Specification: Maximum Power: 480 Watts. Switches: ATX Logic on-off additional power rocker switch. Fan Dual Fan: Over Voltage Protection recycle AC to reset: +5V trip point < +6.8V, +3.3V trip point < +4.5V, +12V trip point <+15.6V.
Output: +5V: 40A; -5V: 0.3A; +12V: 18A; -12V: 0.8A; +3.3V: 30A; +5VSB: 2A. Input: Voltage Range: 100 ?240 Vrms. Frequency Range: 47 - 63 Hz

I've done alot of research and I'm going to give it a try... my new system will actually be drawing a little less power than my current system
2.6c / 9800pro128 / gig ram which is now using the thermal take psu.

New Sys - 7600GT has a very low max as does the e6300

The 7600GT is a nice low-power consumption card - the most you'll run into is a fan power connector, and if you get the Silent card you won't even need that.

But keep in mind that the heat generated remains inside your case - you might want to consider how good your airflow is inside your case.

I might be a bit late in responding, but if you haven't bought yet, I'd recommend the eVGA 7600GT KO.

It has an extra large copper heatsink, compared to the nvidia reference design (the 7600GT CO).

You just install it in the PCI Express 16 slot. It does not require an external power hook up to the PSU, and the card's onboard fan is already plugged in to the card.

It runs very cool and quite. My GPU typically measures in the low 40's.

This is in an Antec 1050B case with a single rear 120 mm fan running on low, with ambient room temps of about 22C.
