i want a card to run on this system and be the best for oblivion at 1600x1200 or mabye 1280x1024

i was considering these set-ups
2, 7900gt's in SLI
a 7950gx2
2, x1900xt in crossfire
a x1900xtx

im looking to play oblivion at MAX settings and get at least 25 fps outside. which is my best bet. they all come out to around 500 dollars

MAx settings on a single card..good luck. FS used max settings on their testing: http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/oblivion_high-end_performance/page5.asp Looks like the X1800XT, X1900XT and X1900XTX all managed to stay above 25 fps in the foliage. I have the X1800XT and I say go higher (X1900XT) if you want to max oblivion.

But really, if you are talking really max Oblivion like AA+HDR and HQAF, no single card will do. Crossfire X1900XT is the way to go, especially if you enable those ubar eye candy settings.

Crossfire X1900XT stayed above 40 fps at 16x12 MAX, but that is in game max and not truely driver/command prompt max.

I honestly have my doubts that even crossfire X1950XTX could truely max Oblivion at 16x12.

I agree with Pauldh. For 1600x1200 no card can truly max out this game. However, if you are able to play the waiting game, the next gen cards should allow you to max out the settings.

If you can't wait for a few months and have to play this great game now, I would also suggest x1900xt in crossfire, this coming from someone who has a Nvidia 6600GT card. Saving up $$$ now so that I can get a DX 10 card so that I can finally play Oblivion and all the next gen games which will probably be as demanding as Oblivion.

7950GX2, 7900GTX, X1900XTX, X1950XTX, SLI and/or CF. Overclocking your E6600 would probably be good too. Even then, it may be the prettiest, fastest slide show you ever did saw.

Honestly, it'll take until DX10 before there's a solid chance of running Oblivion smoothly on any card. It's probably wisest to wait.

i have never played this game, but it sounds like a bundle of poorly written code if it runs as bad as i hear and looks like it does. the graphics arent all that good so why else would it run so poorly? i would play something else if it doesnt run at better than 25fps with a rig like that. madness.

The newer cards will supposedly come out before christmas and have more than twice the transistor counts.

XBOX 360 is the only thing that can run oblivion nice and smooth with all the graphic options turned all the way up...sad to say..but its true, i just hope that the "next gen" cards are an improvement over the shit hardware we have today that is overpriced.

that may be a fact..but to my eye, i saw no difference when my friend on his 360 played it on his computer monitor, looked great, always kept smooth framerates.

you are right, the code is a lump of shit. because it was designed specifically for the x360. now im not saying the x360 is a piece of shit, because it is decent, but bethesda or who ever has never made a game for 360 before, and the engine is a modified one built from an older pc engine. but you are wrong in saying the graphics arent amazing. even on my 360 in HD it looks crazy as hell. screen shots never do the game justice. and the pc version is alot more detailed even still! plus all the mods that make it look even better then the retail version is stunning. So dont be so negative about the game, the code is shitty, but there is a reason for it and you dont need to bash the game.

Anyways... Oblivion is far from poorly coded, yes it does have bugs (all games do) but it was coded with new hardware in mind... not current. So if your rig runs it like ass... it's time to upgrade or shut up.

like i posted earlier... oblivion is best with high end and future hardware... I don't believe they ever intended us to play it on high settings.. yet. Considering the graphical differences between the pc and 360 on high it's hard to believe it's the same engine.
