i want a card to run on this system and be the best for oblivion at 1600x1200 or mabye 1280x1024

e6600
2gs ram

i was considering these set-ups
2, 7900gt's in SLI
a 7950gx2
2, x1900xt in crossfire
a x1900xtx

im looking to play oblivion at MAX settings and get at least 25 fps outside. which is my best bet. they all come out to around 500 dollars

More about : card run oblivion max settings

a b U Graphics card

MAx settings on a single card..good luck. FS used max settings on their testing: http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/oblivion_high-end_p... Looks like the X1800XT, X1900XT and X1900XTX all managed to stay above 25 fps in the foliage. I have the X1800XT and I say go higher (X1900XT) if you want to max oblivion.

But really, if you are talking really max Oblivion like AA+HDR and HQAF, no single card will do. Crossfire X1900XT is the way to go, especially if you enable those ubar eye candy settings.

Crossfire X1900XT stayed above 40 fps at 16x12 MAX, but that is in game max and not truely driver/command prompt max.
http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/oblivion_high-end_p...

I honestly have my doubts that even crossfire X1950XTX could truely max Oblivion at 16x12.

I agree with Pauldh. For 1600x1200 no card can truly max out this game. However, if you are able to play the waiting game, the next gen cards should allow you to max out the settings.

If you can't wait for a few months and have to play this great game now, I would also suggest x1900xt in crossfire, this coming from someone who has a Nvidia 6600GT card. Saving up $$$ now so that I can get a DX 10 card so that I can finally play Oblivion and all the next gen games which will probably be as demanding as Oblivion.

7950GX2, 7900GTX, X1900XTX, X1950XTX, SLI and/or CF. Overclocking your E6600 would probably be good too. Even then, it may be the prettiest, fastest slide show you ever did saw. :D

Honestly, it'll take until DX10 before there's a solid chance of running Oblivion smoothly on any card. It's probably wisest to wait.

i have never played this game, but it sounds like a bundle of poorly written code if it runs as bad as i hear and looks like it does. the graphics arent all that good so why else would it run so poorly? i would play something else if it doesnt run at better than 25fps with a rig like that. madness.
September 24, 2006 5:35:37 AM

Just hold on and wait for the next gen of cards to come out.

The newer cards will supposedly come out before christmas and have more than twice the transistor counts.

sorry but this is all I have to say...

HAHAHAHA.

That is all... feel free to discuss

XBOX 360 is the only thing that can run oblivion nice and smooth with all the graphic options turned all the way up...sad to say..but its true, i just hope that the "next gen" cards are an improvement over the shit hardware we have today that is overpriced.
September 24, 2006 5:48:18 AM

too bad it's at a low resolution. Xbox360 does run it "smooth" but pcs are much better looking and have a way higher res than the 360 version.

that may be a fact..but to my eye, i saw no difference when my friend on his 360 played it on his computer monitor, looked great, always kept smooth framerates.

you are right, the code is a lump of shit. because it was designed specifically for the x360. now im not saying the x360 is a piece of shit, because it is decent, but bethesda or who ever has never made a game for 360 before, and the engine is a modified one built from an older pc engine. but you are wrong in saying the graphics arent amazing. even on my 360 in HD it looks crazy as hell. screen shots never do the game justice. and the pc version is alot more detailed even still! plus all the mods that make it look even better then the retail version is stunning. So dont be so negative about the game, the code is shitty, but there is a reason for it and you dont need to bash the game.
September 24, 2006 6:30:00 AM

ahem, Bethesda. Not Monolith
September 24, 2006 6:31:29 AM

i know, i just changed it lol. i just rememberd its bethesda. well dont rip, i havent played games in a while now, and monolith just came to mind ^^.

hey hey Uber_G. Semi bad news on the rig... held up at customs (must have thought it was a f16 fighter jet or something, cuz it's a falcon ;)  ) Monday or tuesday it will be mine... muhahahaha

Anyways... Oblivion is far from poorly coded, yes it does have bugs (all games do) but it was coded with new hardware in mind... not current. So if your rig runs it like ass... it's time to upgrade or shut up.

September 24, 2006 6:51:55 AM

I'm just winding down from a night of gaming (cod2) and drinking some water to balance the amount of Heineken I consumed.
September 24, 2006 6:56:41 AM

i still need to buy that game :(

runs pretty good on my computer, but oblivion, i dont even try with that game
September 24, 2006 6:57:54 AM

like i posted earlier... oblivion is best with high end and future hardware... I don't believe they ever intended us to play it on high settings.. yet. Considering the graphical differences between the pc and 360 on high it's hard to believe it's the same engine.
September 24, 2006 7:04:07 AM

very true

im still going to wait a couple months till the whole vista/video cards come out

-il be playing word of warcraft and BF2 till then
September 24, 2006 7:05:29 AM

I could never get into BF2 online... the community was filled with childish noobhunters. I hated it... whenever you die they are like "L0L N00B1E R0FLZ!!!111one"

Meh, maybe it was just I never had any friends who played it.
September 24, 2006 7:15:21 AM

u should try counter-strike 1.6

Horrible community, i stopped playing it

-to many asian hackers trying to act tough
September 24, 2006 7:17:27 AM

same with cs: source dunno about asians but a lame community none-the-less

We so hijacked this thread
September 24, 2006 1:47:33 PM

ya you did hijacked my thread but i forgive you.

im not building this computer until after xmass but ive heard rumors that r600 and such are not coming out until vista does, and vista has already been bumped back to early 2007, its 3rd or 4th bump back already.

looking at this without any bias really makes you think. its very possible we wont see any dx10 cards hit the market and/or no dx10 until summer of 2007!

Wow....Someone who shares my opinion on BF2! Thought i was the only one. But i still think i'm the only person on the planet who can't stand WoW however.

Again, I agree. CSS is full of mindless kids who can't speak properly and probably say "LOL" at each other at school.

One game i know which does have a semi-decent player base is DoDS, on the server i play on anyway. Quake 4 has a decent community too, if you know where to look.
September 24, 2006 4:28:57 PM

I hate WoW :)
September 24, 2006 5:20:08 PM

My 1800xt (slightly overclocked at 689 and 792) runs it fine at 1600x1200 at max everything. Not sure why so many people have troubles. I get from 24-52 FPS on average with FRAPS, very playable. Running on an Athlon 64 3700+ with 2 Gig 2-3-2-5 RAM at 1t.

This includes around the portal's and with grass turned all the way up :)

AMD 64 3200+ @ 2.4
1gb RAM
6800gs
asus a8n ali
sound blaster live

i need to get a x1900xt (256mb) more RAM, 600watt PSU, and a X2 4600+

:D

then after all that upgrading il wait till the prices go down for the core 2 and DX 10 arrives then il buy a system from Falcon, or alienware

If you're gonna buy a new PC so soon, then why bother upgrading what you've got? I might stick with my current crap throughout high school (I'm a freshman right now; I don't know if I can live with it for so long   ), then raid my bank account and build something really nice for college.
September 25, 2006 5:29:29 AM

just to have a back up computer, and i host LAN's at my house and sometimes my friends cant bring there own computers, so they use Mine

:D

-i dont want them to have Cruddy game play ( ruins all the fun )
September 25, 2006 1:48:34 PM

yeah my girlfriend has a 3.2ghz with 1gig of ram and a 6600. That's what all my friends play when they come over
September 25, 2006 3:01:19 PM

The 360 doesnt run it near as smooth as a top end computer. Doesnt run as fast as mine runs it. My friend has a 360....and my computer smokes it especially in GRAW.

listen, we Are all pc gamers here, but at the same time, admit defeat for the time being, i dont know what 360 your friend has, but iv seen all games run perfectly smooth on it and look better than pc graphics as of now.until dx10 comes out, ps3 and the 360 are the top performers graphics wise. No graphics hardware , inluding the 7950gx2, gets more than 40 fps in outside environments in oblivion, to some that may be concidered "playable" ...but you know, you just spent 600 bucks on a video card..to have a game just be "playable" instead of nice and smooth..enough is enough with expensive computer hardware for less performance than a 400 consol.
September 25, 2006 3:15:38 PM

oh give it up... 360 hardware has nothing on pc hardware
September 25, 2006 3:21:40 PM

You have to be kidding right ??..... the newest patch for oblivion through xbox live only increases the stuttering, it works worse then it did and my computer still smokes its performance. There is no definitive way of checking the frame rate on the 360 so how can you say it was running at 40 fps... because I can guarantee it wasnt. Computers are much more powerful as gaming platforms then consoles will ever be no matter how much propaganda microsoft and sony spew. If you go and research the hardware for the 360 and ps3 you will clearly find it is nothing special.

You have no idea how many times iv gotten that response..."look at the ps3 and 360 specs".. i dont care about specs, i use my 2 eyes and i can tell the difference. and if you read it correctly..i said pc runs oblivion, with a 7950gx2, at only a shuttering 40 fps MAX in outside environments... Computer are much more powerful, not in gaming, until dx10 comes out, like i said, the consols win in graphics. This is coming from a pc gamer, im not a consol fan what so ever , but at the same time, how can you be satisfied..buying a Mach V for i dont know, id guess anywhere between 2-3 grand, when the 360 , as of now, has better graphics in games, than the pc. I would feel cheated, when i coulda bought a 360 for 400 dollars, then just used my computer monitor for resolution
September 25, 2006 4:14:04 PM

Better get your eyes checked. The 360 only does 30FPS. Oblivion looks better on a high end PC than on the 360.
September 25, 2006 4:43:16 PM

Yeah, like I said I get up to 52 fps. Even in outdoors except around the portals or if there are alot of enemies and such, then it drops to around 20-30. Which is still playable. Mind you this is with vsync on so you don't need twice the framerate to get the same results. XBOX 360 looks no where near as good as my pc. My friend has his hooked to a 50" some inch samsung hdtv and it just doesn't play or look as good.
September 25, 2006 4:55:30 PM

I hate WoW too...I love DoD:S, although I contribute to the smack talking when I get on a roll :D
September 25, 2006 4:59:48 PM

actually it cost me $5,700 but I wrote it off for business reasons. :o
